Best! Would do it 3 more times...

Personalized. Learned so much. So much beauty all around. I would meet her 3 more times at least and do more spots. Was our first watercolor She was prepared, professional. Had books to teach us composition. Taught us the paints. Just needed better directions on where to first meet which is not that GPS address exactly on a road ropped off. Buy just past that street behind the food truck "Bite of Maine" is that lot beyond the food truck

    Very personal and very comfortable!

What an amazing class so much fun! We had a great time and Joanne made it very special. Her attention to details and her help was amazing. She made it very personal and we did it as a couple which made it romantic as well. We both made amazing paintings that we will hang on the wall when we get home.

Painting in Portland should be a number 1 activity

What an amazing experience we had. Our first outing while in Portland was so peaceful, serene and a wonderful part of nature. Our instructor was very informative with watercolor painting, knowledgeable and helped us to understand the beginning of water color painting. All the while during the sketching to in and outs of painting. It was so much fun!

    Best day ever.

Joanne was a delight! She had all the necessary supplies and found us a perfect out of the way spot. She was kind and patient with a couple of newbies. We learned lots of good techniques and can’t wait to do it again! 10/10 would recommend.

Plein air painting with JoAnn was a perfect day in Portland, Maine!

Our plein air painting with JoAnn was the most perfect day! Even though we are both beginners, we learned so much! JoAnn is a fantastic artist and teacher, she inspired us, as well as the joy of being outdoors in the gorgeous Maine setting! We cannot imagine a better way to experience Portland, meet a more lovely artist and actually learn in the process. Don’t miss this experience, as it was the highlight of our 16 day New England tour, a lifetime memory for sure!

Response from the operator: Thomas and Carolyn, Thank you for your glowing review. Your enthusiasm and energy was appreciated. I appreciated your willingness to stretch your comfort zone and incorporate new ways to use watercolor to achieve exciting results. I had so much fun working with you both!

Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Portland.

How much does Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience cost?

    +

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Portland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Portland is not rushed.

Is Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Portland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Portland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Portland and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Paint Portland, Maine: Small Group Outdoor Painting Experience start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Portland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Portland?

    +

Portland sells lighthouse and lobster-boat tours in Casco Bay, Old Port food and brewery walks, seal and puffin cruises, and fall foliage runs up the Maine coast. On Outty we rank every Portland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real Portland Tour: City and 3 Lighthouses Historical Tour with a Real Local, Portland, Maine: Hidden Histories Guided Walking Tour, A Walk Through Time Tour in Portland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Portland?

    +

June to October, with peak foliage in early October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Portland?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
