Don't book private book a tour

The reason I booked to come to Kenya, was to experience the saltlicks lodges after seeing them on social media. My expectation and excitement was sky high. I waited a year to experience this and thought all my dreams would come true. Sadly I was left upset, deflated and nearly left to go back to the hotel in mombasa. I booked direct as I thought the business gets full tariff. The communication was poor and I was left not understanding what was going on. We arrived at Voi Station and found our driver, the excitement was growing. He was exceptional he took us to the lodges and gave us a tour on the way. We arrived at the lodges and this is when it went down hill. We completed arrival paperwork and then, kept being told to go for lunch and then collect keys. We weren't hungry it was early, but we did as we was told. I kept hearing your safari is at 4pm, but we didn't get told anything. So I went and asked a reception( they were busy I could see that, but also I came for the safari so needed info) So long story short- if you book private You are only on room and food package. NO SAFARI, which would of been absolutely fine, if we'd been informed and offered a spot. Money wasn't the problem the communication was. So basically there is absolutely nothing to do, unless you go on safari and if there is no safari, you are a spare part. The hotel is part of booking so you can go there and use facilities- but again it's not that easy, its when a driver is free. I felt a total pain, and inconvenience asking, but we couldn't just sit looking at an empty water hole. I know if I'd just booked 1 day on a safari tour it would of been 💯 better. But 2 days direct private was a poor experience. Thankfully naomi messaged me and got us on the 06am and 4pm on Saturday with driver Martin. So we did 2 safari. Martin made our disappointment 😞 turn into a much better experience. Thank you Martin and Naomi. We saw lion, giraffe and zebra. Sadly most animals had left. The lodges by no doubt are beautiful, and a different date or experience it would have been mind-blowing. Be warned Annette the door host needs a new role, she was rude during every encounter not just to customers but to the staff too. I watched her snatch the cultlrery tray from a young girl ( she was only answer a customers question) Its sad, because the cooks, the bar staff and other waiters were all lovely. Please change the door host, she upsets the ambience. We used the bar, but obviously its full of bugs coming in. Would I recommend-ABSOLUTELY But book 1 night, do it through a tour operator. Not private And make sure its animal season Big thank you namoi and Martin

Response from the operator: Hello Ruth. We would like to clarify the above review you have written is not for us since we didn't do any tours with you or even you booking with our Company. I think you mistakenly addressed the wrong company. Reading your review your supposed to write on Taita hills wildlife lodge page not our company Zazu Safari Ventures Ltd. Kindly if you can pull down this review will really appreciate.

Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mombasa.

How much does Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani cost?

    +

Prices start at $571 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mombasa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani take?

    +

Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mombasa is not rushed.

Is Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mombasa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 48-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani?

    +

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mombasa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mombasa and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Overnight Private Safari Saltlick Lodge From Mombasa Diani start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mombasa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mombasa?

    +

On Outty we rank every Mombasa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Walking Tour Through Old Town Mombasa and Fort Jesus, Half-Day Scenic Bike Tour, 3-Day Private Safari of Tsavo East National Park Adventure. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mombasa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mombasa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
