An Amazing Experience at ISE in Quito
I spent several months studying at Instituto Superior de Español while living in Quito’s Centro Histórico, and I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I came to Ecuador hoping to improve my Spanish, but I ended up getting so much more out of my time there. Most of my classes were with Paola, and I absolutely loved working with her. She’s kind, patient, and a really excellent teacher. She always had a plan for our lessons and made sure I was progressing, but she was also great about adapting to how I learned and spending extra time on things I wanted to revisit. I was especially impressed with the school’s teaching approach. There was a really good balance of grammar and conversation, and I never felt uncomfortable making mistakes or asking questions. By the time I finished, I’d progressed to B1 and felt so much more comfortable speaking Spanish. And it certainly wasn’t just Paola. Other students consistently had great things to say about their teachers too. It was also common for students to rotate between different teachers, which I thought was a great approach. Getting exposure to different teaching styles and personalities really helped make the learning experience more well-rounded. Paola also became someone I could turn to for just about anything, whether it was help arranging transportation, booking a tour, or simply asking for advice about life in Ecuador. I really came to consider her a friend. The school itself is such a friendly, welcoming place. I actually looked forward to going every morning, and not just because of the classes. Some of my favorite memories are the everyday conversations with staff and other students over coffee and snacks. There were also opportunities to join excursions and activities like cooking classes, which were a lot of fun. Sandra and the rest of the administrative staff were wonderful too. They were always asking what I had planned and offering to help, even with things completely unrelated to school, like making a dentist appointment. By the end of my stay, I felt like I’d made friends with just about everyone there. It was a place where I genuinely enjoyed spending time, even outside of my lessons. I also want to mention how much I loved living in Centro Histórico. I know some people have concerns about visiting Quito, but my own experience was nothing but positive. I walked to school every morning and loved being surrounded by so much history, culture, great food, shops, and everyday life. I was also surprised by how much commerce and activity there was in the neighborhood. It’s a fascinating area with so much going on, and I’m really glad I chose to live there rather than somewhere else in the city. I never felt unsafe or had any negative experiences, and Ubers and taxis were easy and affordable when I needed them. More than anything, I was struck by how friendly and helpful Ecuadorians were. I made friends easily, and being able to communicate with people in Spanish made the whole experience so much richer. I also met students who had studied Spanish in other countries, including Guatemala, and several mentioned how impressed they were with ISE compared to their previous schools. It was nice to hear that from people who had experienced different programs, and it reinforced how happy I was with my decision to study here. Leaving Ecuador was honestly pretty emotional. I met so many wonderful people, and ISE was a big part of what made my time there so special. I’m really grateful to Paola, Sandra, and everyone at the school for making me feel so welcome. I’m already looking forward to continuing classes online, and I hope I’ll have the chance to visit again someday. I would absolutely recommend ISE to anyone thinking about studying Spanish in Ecuador. And if any prospective students have questions about the school or what it’s like to live in Quito, I’d be happy to share more about my experience!

Amazing Progress in Just One Week!
I started learning Spanish only about two and a half months ago, completely from scratch, and before coming here I was still somewhere in the middle of A1. I spent just one week at this Spanish school, but I honestly couldn’t have imagined how much progress I would make in such a short time. My teacher, Adriana, was absolutely wonderful. She took the time to review the topics I had already studied, but explained them in a much clearer and more detailed way. At the same time, she introduced me to many new topics and constantly encouraged me to actually use the language instead of just learning grammar and vocabulary. The biggest change I noticed was in my confidence and speaking. After only one week, I felt that I could express my thoughts much more freely and, most importantly, I was no longer afraid to speak Spanish. Even though I am still only at the beginning of A2, reaching this point after just two and a half months of learning Spanish from zero feels like a huge achievement for me — and this intensive week at the school played a very important role in that progress. I can only imagine how much more I could have learned if I had started Spanish from zero at this school or had been able to stay for a longer period. A very special thank you to Adriana. She is incredibly kind, patient, and supportive, and her teaching method worked extremely well for me. I am leaving not only with more knowledge, but also with much more confidence to actually speak Spanish. Thank you for this wonderful experience! I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone who wants to improve their Spanish. ❤️

Spanish lessons and homestay
I could not recommend this Spanish school more! Eugenio and Sandra who work there were so helpful organising my classes and homestay fast and effectively. The private lessons helped me learn so much in the three weeks I studied and the homestay was an added bonus. The family I was placed with were so kind and welcoming and helped the lessons feel so much easier. The price for everything was very worth what you get for both lessons and the homestay.
Response from the operator: Dear Hannah, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for sharing about your experience with us! We are happy to hear that you had a great time during your three weeks of private Spanish lessons and that you highly recommend our school to learn Spanish. Eugenio and Sandra are delighted to hear your kind words about their help in organizing your classes and homestay quickly and effectively, thank you for appreciating it. It is also great to read that you enjoyed your stay with your host family and that their warmth and hospitality made your learning experience even smoother. It was a true pleasure getting to know you and having you as a student in Quito, we hope to see you again in the future and we wish you all the best with your journey! Warm regards from all of us! The best Spanish school Quito
Amazing school for learning Spanish. Central located in the historical centre of Quito. We just did a 1 week course which was great but I coukd have stayed way longer. Teachers are very experienced and kind. They organize activitities in the afternoon and on weekend days. Also nice to meet other persons learning spanish. We were a family of 3 persons: 2 adults and a teenager (12). All had clases on their own level.

An amazing place
It was my first experience at a Spanish school and I couldn't have asked for anything better. ISE has been in operation for many years, and it is evident. The curriculum is perfectly structured so you can start at whatever level you are currently at. The teachers are professional and very kind. Overall, the whole environment makes you feel at home, which is necessary since many of us came alone from far away. If you really want to work on your Spanish in a place that makes you feel welcome not only at the school itself but also in the whole country, I can confidently recommend ISE for 100%.

+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?

What are the best things to do in Quito?
+

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Quito?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Quito?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
