    What you'll see and do

    1. Piazza De' Pitti

Join us on a journey to explore one of Florence's most charming and authentic neighborhoods, Oltrarno. Meaning "beyond the Arno," this district lies south of the river, across from the historic center and the bustling Duomo. Even on the busiest summer days, Oltrarno’s streets remain refreshingly tranquil, offering a glimpse into the genuine Florentine lifestyle. Oltrarno is undeniably one of the most picturesque and characteristic quarters of Florence. Known for its vibrant artisan culture, this district is home to traditional workshops and talented artists working in delightful studios. Historically, Oltrarno was a hub for merchants traveling through Florence on their way to Rome. Its transformation began in the 15th century when the Pitti family built the iconic Palazzo Pitti, attracting noble families, including the Medici, who made it their residence in 1550. This is where we will start the walk.

    2. Piazza Santo Spirito

The walk will immerse you in Oltrarno's artisanal spirit. Strolling through its quaint streets, you'll pass boutique shops, antique stores, and our favorite treasures, small artisan workshops where age, old techniques come alive. Our first stop is at a boutique that exemplifies Italian craftsmanship, specializing in decorative paper. Here, you’ll discover the centuries-old techniques of paper marbling and woodcutting, which date back to the 17th century. These handmade creations are a testament to Florence’s enduring artistic legacy.

    3. Santo Spirito / San Frediano

Next, we’ll visit a family-run studio renowned for their traditional etchings. Explore an exquisite collection of landscapes, cityscapes, flora, and fauna, with a special focus on Florence’s iconic vistas. Created using 16th-century techniques, these finely crafted engravings range from whimsical postcards to stunning art pieces, perfect for any art enthusiast. Each time you admire your "Ponte Vecchio" engraving, you’ll be transported back to Florence.

      30 minutes here

    4. Santo Spirito / San Frediano

No visit to Florence is complete without delving into its love affair with leather. This tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, supported by abundant Tuscan cattle and the vital Arno River. By the 13th century, leatherworkers organized into guilds that safeguarded their trade secrets and fostered innovation. At this stop, Roberta, the owner of a family-run leather business, will teach you how to distinguish authentic leather from imitations and share the story behind this timeless craft.

      30 minutes here

    5. Ponte alla Carraia

Indulge then in another Florentine specialty: gelato. Visit a local gelateria and experience this deliciously crafted treat that has been perfected over centuries. Did you know that gelato gained fame during the Medici era and is often linked to their patronage?!

30 minutes here · Admission included

    6. Santa Maria Novella

As the sun sets, we’ll cross the river, taking in the stunning views of Ponte Vecchio, and arrive at the final destination: the iconic wine window. Learn about its historical significance during the plague and raise a toast with a glass of wine, just as the Florentines did in medieval times. For those eager to know more about Florence & its fact, you can extend your walk with us with the Florence by Night tour with Aperitivo which starts right after this itinerary.

    Fun and Educational

Definitely educational. Saw the actual artisans describe the process of making paper, leather works etc. We were able to touch and feel the materials. The wine wall experience was cool and unique. And of course the gelato was amazing. I’m so glad we took this tour.

Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Florence.

How much does Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato cost?

    +

Prices start at $69 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Florence usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato take?

    +

Plan for about 2.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Florence is not rushed.

Is Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Florence, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Florence can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Florence and add a light layer if any part of the 2.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Oltrarno Artisans tour, Wine Window and Gelato start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Florence within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

    +

On Outty we rank every Florence experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best tour in Florence: Renaissance & Medici Tales - guided by a STORYTELLER, Florence Pizza or Pasta Class & Gelato Making at a Tuscan Farm, Small group Tuscan Wineries, Olive Oil & Gourmet Lunch or Dinner. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Florence?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Florence?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
