About this experience
This tour will enable us to understand how the city of Delhi came to be shaped into the way we know it today. The bloody passage between the Mughal and the English power that definitively and sadly changed the face of one of the world's most beautiful and wealthiest cities, Shahjahanabad, now known as Old Delhi. We will walk through the alleys of Shahjahanabad, we will arrive at the Jama Masjid which is the second largest mosque in India and which was also the mosque of the Emperors. We will continue to the bazaars that line Chandni Chowk until we reach Khari Baoli, the spice market. We will enter some narrow lanes that still offer us an idea of what the houses of the past were like and we will see life go by feeling part of it. It will be a very engaging morning because Old Delhi is "the chaos", a fascinating and delirious aspect of this country!

What you'll see and do
Delhi, New Delhi, sometimes you have heard Old Delhi too, are you confused? Let's clarify and, while we're at it, let's go for a ride to Old Delhi! As a Venetian I've been immediately fascinated and it made me feel in tune, a maze of "gali" that led me to my "calli", where I loved and love to get lost. This Walk will also allow us to understand how the city of New Delhi took shape the way we know it today. We will also talk about the bloody passage between Mughal power and the British one that definitively changed the face of what had been one of the most beautiful and richest cities in the world, in the seventeenth century, Shahajahanabad, now known as Old Delhi. Let's take a dip in this chaotic world that will engage all your senses and will immerse you in one of the everyday realities of the many inhabitants of Delhi. Are you coming with me?

Authentic
If you wander around Delhi alone, you'll never truly delve into the city's soul, unlike visiting it with Elena, who has lived here for years and knows the Indian capital inside and out. So well, I suggested she write a book about it—who knows if she'll ever do it! She's not just a guide, but a woman who loves these places, and who wanders with ease among tuk tuks and deities, beggars and monuments. While I hesitated on the sidewalk before plunging into the traffic jam, she dared to venture into the tangle of cars and stop them with a wave of her hand! They say details make the difference. Elena knows tons of details. And they're not the boring, rhetorical ones of the guidebooks that tell you about the prepackaged city. They're the authentic ones of those who experience a city firsthand every day.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE WITH ELENA TOMMASE
We‘re a family of four, and one month ago went to India for the first time; we found out an incredible frenetic and hot city. I contacted Elena via social media and she asked us what our interests and needs were, so we agreed in advance the plan for our 3 days in Delhi. She's been living there for a long time but since she is Italian we could talk in our language! If you want to visit the most significant places I highly recommend you Elena: professional, caring, knowledgeable of the city. She brought us to some of the most tipical places where we could see the real Indian culture, far-away from the turistic attractions. Always helpful, kind and patient, I wholeheartedly recommend her!

Elena T.: kind, welcoming and professional tour guide
I contacted Elena because I had little time between one flight and another and I was afraid of not being able to move well in the big city alone. Elena showed me several of her proposals and on that basis I personalized my tour, also including the first necessary procedures (exchange of money and Sim card) In a few hours I saw the neighborhoods and monuments that interested me, a musical parade and we also had a laugh in the park. Elena explains the story well but also everyday life. I had a great time, I recommend it!

Experiencing Old Delhi and the Yamuna River
We had a very stimulating tour around Old Delhi and the way people lives the Yamuna River. Elena is really prepared and she knows very well the city and the History. Moreover, she advised me some beautiful ideas to celebrate my husband's birthday and she organized a very interesting tailor made tour according to our interests (we both are architects!). Thank you so much for everything! :)

Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Delhi.
How much does Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $15000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Delhi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Delhi is not rushed.
Is Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 32 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New Delhi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Delhi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Old Delhi through the Hidden Alleys Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New Delhi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New Delhi?
+
On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New Delhi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New Delhi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
