About this experience

This is okonomiyaki, Hiroshima-style. No flames, no gimmicks, no shrimp tossed through the air. Just real food, real chefs, and a little bit of action if you want in on the fun. You’ll sit grill-side with a bilingual guide and a professional okonomiyaki chef, learning how this layered, savory pancake became a local staple. Choose from four different versions, including meat, seafood, vegetarian, and a gluten-free option (available by request). If you want to try your hand at cooking, the chef will guide you step by step. If you’d rather just relax and eat, that’s totally fine too. This is a small group experience at a real local restaurant, not a tourist trap, and you’ll leave full, happy, and maybe just a little proud of your creation. Okonomiyaki has long been a go-to meal in Japan, originally taking shape in the years after World War II when simple ingredients had to stretch far. These days, it’s still found everywhere from hole-in-the-wall counters to specialty restaurants.

Best Local Feel!

We did 9 different organized tours or experiences on our trip and this one had the best local feel of them all! Our guide Ken was an amazing conversationalist and it felt like we were visiting an old friend's hometown. Making the okonomiyaki was a fun and interesting challenge and it tasted much better than what we got at a restaurant in Kyoto!

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re honored to hear that the experience felt like the most local and personal part of your trip. It’s wonderful to know that Ken’s conversation and atmosphere made it feel more like visiting a friend’s hometown than joining a tour. We’re also glad you enjoyed the challenge of making okonomiyaki yourselves, and even happier to hear it became one of your favorite meals in Japan.😊

Our guide Ken was very...

Our guide Ken was very nice and helpful and the experience was great. We décided not to eat any breakfast to have room for the okonomiyaki at lunch and didn't regret it one bit. We're ready to make more at home!

Response from the operator: We’re so glad to hear you had such a great experience with Ken! Okonomiyaki actually has such a great smell that it can make anyone hungry anytime😊 It’s wonderful to hear you’re planning to make it at home!

Wonderful experience, highly recommended

Our guide, Ken, was awesome. He was punctual, and easy to communicate with via WhatsApp. The restaurant was a short tram trip from the meetup at Hiroshima Peace Park. Ken was very friendly, and kept up a nice conversation between our group, and the chef, Seiya. One of our group is a vegetarian, and both Ken and Seiya were kind and accommodating. The restaurant was cozy, and the experience provided by Seiya was fantastic. We had a lot of fun, the food was very tasty, and both Ken and Seiya made us feel like we were just hanging out with friends. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Hiroshima. Thank you Ken and Seiya!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for joining our Hiroshima dining experience. We’re delighted that Ken’s coordination and Seiya’s hospitality made the evening so enjoyable, from the smooth communication to the thoughtful vegetarian options. It’s wonderful to know the warm atmosphere and shared conversation made it feel like a gathering among friends.😊

Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hiroshima.

How much does Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition cost?

+

Prices start at $8800 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hiroshima usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hiroshima is not rushed.

Is Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hiroshima, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hiroshima can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hiroshima and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Okonomiyaki Counter: Hiroshima Edition start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hiroshima within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hiroshima?

+

On Outty we rank every Hiroshima experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Peaceful Hiroshima & Miyajima UNESCO 1 Day Bus Tour, Hiroshima Peace (Heiwa) Walking Tour at World Heritage Sites, Hiroshima & Miyajima in 1 Day: Private Tour, Licensed Guide. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hiroshima?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hiroshima?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
