This was a highlight of...
This was a highlight of our trip to Oaxaca City. Our guide, Itzel, was extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the neighborhood. But also Mexico as a whole she anwered all of our questions. We learned so much! Also Itzel had great suggestions for art galleries, street art, restaurants, etc. Thank you! Highly recommend!

Loved it
This was great -- really informative and interesting and Ixtal had a great knowledge of so many aspects of Oaxaca. She even followed up with me and gave me links and names of places we talked about. I got a lot out of it and would totally do it again.
Response from the operator: Thanks for your words! We're more than happy to hear you had such a great time and that Itzel made the experience so meaningful — she puts a lot of heart into sharing the best of Oaxaca. We’d love to have you join us again anytime!

Excellent food tour in Oacaxa
The food choices and restaurants offer a dizzying array of options on Oaxaca so if you are unsure where to start your food experiences when you get here booking this tour is a great choice. Kristina was an awesome guide! She tells you all about the dishes as you eat them at 4 different restaurants. There is even some mezcal!

Good walking tour
Good walking tour, Itzel was a great guide. Itzel is a local, with good English language, great knowledge of history and politics of the city and state. Enjoyable tour, personable guide, definitely recommended.

A nice walk with some history
A walk about the historical center of Oaxaca that was filled with history and a prevalence of buildings and places “not open at this time.” I appreciated the history but they should add some other places that are open to visitors.
Response from the operator: We are sincerely confused, specifically because you never showed up to take the tour. We don't know what happened, but we were trying to locate you, but we couldn't find you, and we had to start the tour without you. That's why your comment seems weird, because we don't know who you did the tour with. What is true is that your comment is affecting us, because you are not telling the truth, because you were not with us and we do not know who you did the tour with. If your trouble is not to have been able to take the tour with us, you would simply have told us, and we would have gladly asked tripadvisor for the refund for you. But we have nothind from you. But your comment does affect us. I hope you consider it and decide to remove your comment, because it affects the work of several people who work happily with people visiting Oaxaca. Please consider. Warm regards. Aquiles Ortiz

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Oaxaca: Beyond the surface: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Oaxaca: Beyond the surface cost?
+
Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Oaxaca: Beyond the surface take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Oaxaca: Beyond the surface worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Oaxaca: Beyond the surface?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Oaxaca: Beyond the surface suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Oaxaca: Beyond the surface?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Oaxaca: Beyond the surface start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
