Great volcano tour
We had a great time. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, and even wrote a book about the eruption. He had videos on his phone of the event since he was there. He was very patient and nice.

Amazing guide!!
This was a really great tour! Our guide Ásgeir was wonderful and his lovely wife Augusta was so sweet as well. They picked my partner and I up from the hotel in Reykjavik at 8:00am and we made our way to the parking area for the volcano. You have to walk about half a mile to get to the lava fields and then you start the hike up the mountain. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath but it was a pleasant hike. Unfortunately, the weather was so foggy and never burned off, so we couldn't see the volcano. We waited at the top to see if the weather might get better and then decided to hike a bit further to see if the weather would be better since some hikers had come through saying they were able to see it. We hiked a bit further and then we sat and waited along with probably 50 other people. The fog never let up but we could hear it. Altogether it ended to being around a 10 mile hike and can be difficult in some areas. Thankfully, our guide had walking poles that I was able to use and our guide's wife stayed with me since I have a fear of uncontrolled heights. They were both so kind and helpful and even took us to get ice cream on the way back. If you are going to Iceland and want to see the volcano, this tour company is the best!

James was a great guide.
My husband and I hired James for a private tour of the volcano. We had a great time and were so happy we hired a guide. James hikes the area every day and knows it well. Many people on the trails did not seem to know where to go or where to best view the latest flows, so we felt having James was so worth the cost. He was friendly, patient, and very knowledgable. We lucked out and saw some great lava flow. Very dramatic and memorable.

Worth the hike
Worth the hike. Amazing to see the birth of a new volcano. Magma spewing and flowing down the mountain is awe inspiring. Fair warning. The hike to the best viewing point can be steep in some places. Total elevation gain is approximately 1000 feet over 3 miles. And the wind can blow 25 to 50 mph. So dress appropriately. Our tour guide was professional and patient. Van was clean and worked well. The van holds 20 and every seat was filled so book early.

EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!!
Our private volcano tour with James was the funnest, most AMAZING experience of our lives!!! James was so awesome, before we even left home he told us exactly what we needed to pack, answered general questions about what to expect in Iceland re Covid, and once we were actually on our tour with him, we couldn't have asked for a better guide! Since we were on a private tour he was able to be super flexible about what time we started and made sure we got to the volcano in time to have some light, but then also be there when it got dark. He was fun to talk to and super knowledgeable about the volcano, and provided all the gear we needed to safely navigate the terrain. He was the perfect blend of adventurous and responsible, and really went above and beyond to make sure we had the most unforgettable experience of our lives...he even used his walking pole to fish out a piece of molten lava from the lava flow, then cooled it with his coffee so we now have the coolest souvenir lava rock of all time!! Really, there's no way I could recommend this tour highly enough--it was simply the BEST EVER!! And now that we've met James and done a tour with him, we definitely plan to always go through his company for all our tours next time we visit Iceland. BOOK THIS TODAY!!!
Response from the operator: It was a great to meet you guys. Thank you for the nice words, we really appreciate it.

Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.
How much does Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos cost?
+
Prices start at $148 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.
Is Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?
+
On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Silfra Snorkeling Between Continents Photos Included- Self Drive, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos?
+
Included: On-board WiFi; Hot Chocolate; In-vehicle air conditioning; Cozy and Warm Blanket; and Icelandic Treat. Not included: Dinner. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Does Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos include hotel pickup?
+
Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 23 listed pickup locations in and around Reykjavik. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time.
What languages is Northern Lights with Local Pastries, Hot Chocolate and Photos offered in?
+
It runs in English. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
