Spirits of the woods
We spent a splendid day in the surroundings of Nikko. Our tour guide JJ was super friendly and helpful and made us feel very comfortable. The time to visit the different sites was sufficient and we didn't feel stressed. We would do it again.

A nice change of pace from Tokyo
What a nice day. Even with all the rain, it was so nice to get out of Tokyo for the day. The sites were all gorgeous and JJ was a gracious guide, helping make sure we stayed on track, but also never rushing us. I can only imagine how beautiful this outing would be in the autumn. Be sure to bring cash for site admissions!

JJ our driver and guide...
JJ our driver and guide was awesome! We really appreciated his flexibility to meet us after we checked out of our hotel at Lake Chuzenji Nikko (instead of Tokyo). It was very easy communicating with the tour company and JJ later on WhatsApp to personalize our tour of Nikko. He also recommended a delicious ramen restaurant for lunch. During the hot summers, Nikko and especially Lake Chuzenji is a good 10-20 degrees cooler. We saw spectacular waterfalls and one of our favorite shrines in Japan, Nikko Toshogu Shrine, famous for its cedar forest and "three wise monkeys" wooden carving. Overall, we had a wonderful day touring Nikko and a relaxing drive back to Tokyo where JJ dropped us off at our hotel.

Great escape from the city!
We had a great day trip to Nikko, which was a lovely change of pace from Tokyo city. Nikko is serene and a spiritual oasis with beautiful vistas, lakes, waterfalls, temples and shrines. There really is so much to see, and our guide Jay Jay was excellent. He provided us with helpful information along the way, teaching us about Japanese culture, and the ride was very comfortable and safe (even with the heavy rain on the way back). I would definitely recommend this day trip to couples or families that want to experience Japan's natural beauties.
