Great organizzation and authentic and unforgettable visit.
I chose this tour based on the glowing online reviews, and I can fully confirm everything: it was a wonderful trip, organized down to the smallest detail. From the exceptionally punctual hotel pick-up to the organizer Pradeep—who was attentive to my need—and the guide Salman, who captivated me with his engaging explanations. A key highlight was visiting the NGO Learning by Locals, where I watched a fantastic performance by the local youth for Indian Independence Day. It was an authentic and moving experience that leaves you reflecting, yet filled with the warm optimism of looking toward the future.
Response from the operator: Dear Carmen, Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartfelt review. We’re delighted that you enjoyed your time in Delhi and appreciated the care and organization behind the experience. We’re especially happy that your visit became such a memorable part of your journey. Meeting our students and seeing their Independence Day performance is something very special to us. Kind regards, Pradeep Delhi by Locals

Life changing experience
I wanted to do this tour to see the reality of life in the slums. I had a certain amount of trepidation thinking it might be depressing, would smell or I would be hassled by beggars. OMG I couldnt have been more wrong. The people were happy and vibrant and although they had very little they still wanted to give everything they had. Badal was an excellent guide and very proud of his colony, I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're delighted that the tour helped provide a deeper understanding of the community and challenged some common misconceptions. Badal grew up in Sanjay Colony and learned English through our NGO, Learning by Locals. We are very proud of his journey and are grateful to have several guides from the local community sharing their own stories and experiences with visitors. As Delhi by Locals approaches its 10th anniversary this September, we are grateful for guests like you who take the time to connect with people and their stories. Thank you for your support!

This Tour Will Be a Highlight of Your Trip
We had a 10 hour layover in Delhi before we flew home and I was looking for a tour that did more than cover the usual Delhi tourist highlights, which we had already seen. I found the perfect answer: Tour with Locals. I emailed with the owner, Pradeep to set our tour. He was very responsive and set up the exact experience I wanted. We combined the Slum Tour with some specific shopping locations I wanted to visit. We were picked up at the airport from our domestic flight in a very nice air conditioned car and visited various sites until it was time for us to be dropped off at the airport again. We left our luggage in the car. The afternoon we spent with Salman and Pradeep was uplifting and inspiring. Not at all the reaction I was expecting from a slum tour. I was hesitant to book this tour because I was afraid it would be like doing a disaster tour where everything was sad and depressing. It was just the opposite. We spent some time touring the neighborhood and then the school. After that we did visited the Lotus Center, did a quick tea tasting and did a little shopping. Prandeep can create whatever experience you desire. Our guide Salman answered all our questions honestly and gave us insightful answers. No questions were off limit. Half of the tour fee is reinvested back into the school. Most important, we got to know a part of Delhi that we would never have seen on our own, met the amazing staff at Tour With Locals, spent some time with the children at the school and came away with a better understanding of India. Pradeep is an amazing leader who is inspiring the youth of Delhi. Neither my husband or I expected to be so affected by this experience. If you are considering this type of experience I would urge you to go ahead and book it. You will not regret it.
Response from the operator: Dear Blanche and Jeff! Thank you so much for your heartfelt review. We are honored that you chose to spend your layover with Delhi by Locals and that the experience exceeded your expectations. Your kind words about Salman, the school, and our community mean a lot to our team. We truly believe travel can create understanding and connection, and we're grateful you became part of that journey. We hope to welcome you back to India one day. Kind regards, Pradeep

Highlight of south Delhi for us
We loved our tour hosted by Badal in the Sanjay colony slum tour. Please do not hesitate to do this eye opening tour. The locals here support themselves have pride in themselves and are extremely hardworking. No offense is taken to the word slum here. Our guide answered any and all questions we had about the way of life here we went to the local school which was one of the highlights of the trip. The students were kind and curious , friendly and lovely as were all of the teachers we met. Most of them attended the school themselves including our guide who was clearly beloved by all the people there. There is no pressure to buy anything and there is no begging. It is a beautiful family community with curious kids playing hide and seek and welcoming tourists. Please note half of the profit received from this tour goes back to the local school. This tour makes a real difference to this community of people. We loved it!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for joining Badal on the Sanjay Colony tour. We are delighted to hear that the experience was one of the highlights of your time in Delhi. Sanjay Colony is a vibrant community filled with hardworking, resilient, and welcoming people, and we're glad you had the opportunity to connect with them and learn about daily life firsthand. It is especially wonderful to know that your visit to the local school left such a positive impression. Many of our guides, including Badal, grew up in the community and attended the school themselves, making the experience deeply personal and meaningful. Thank you for highlighting the respect, dignity, and pride of the residents, as well as the fact that there is no pressure to buy anything during the tour. Our goal is to create genuine cultural exchanges that foster understanding and break stereotypes. 100% profit from this tour directly supports educational initiatives within the community, helping create opportunities for local children and families. Thank you again for your support and for sharing your experience. We hope to welcome you back to Delhi in the future.

Family visit
Pradeep and Badal are super human beings, selfless, informative, kind hearted; they welcomed us into their community and home, explaining about life in Sanjay and the school they support. The children in the school were happy to show us around, performed a dance they had prepared and we even experienced a birthday celebration for one of the teachers. This was both very humbling and heart warming. A truly memorable time.
Response from the operator: Dear Scott and family, Thank you sincerely for sharing such a heartfelt reflection of your experience with us. It means a great deal to hear that your time with us felt so personal and meaningful. Opening up our community and the work we do at the school is something we approach with great care, so it’s truly rewarding to know that it resonated with you in such a genuine way. We’re especially glad you could connect with the children, experience their warmth and joy, and be part of such special moments—from their performance to the birthday celebration. These interactions often leave a lasting impression, and your kind words beautifully capture that spirit. Your appreciation encourages us to continue creating experiences that go beyond sightseeing and foster real human connection. Thank you once again, and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Warm regards, Team Delhi by Locals

New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Delhi.
How much does New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals cost?
+
Prices start at $12 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Delhi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals take?
+
Plan for about 1.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Delhi is not rushed.
Is New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 56 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New Delhi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals?
+
Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Delhi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 1.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does New Delhi: Sanjay Colony Slum Tour with Locals start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New Delhi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New Delhi?
+
On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New Delhi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New Delhi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
