No transport ship to boat; no lagoon boat tour.
My transport from the ship to the Lagoon Boat Ride broke down. He said he would be an hour or two?! Knowing this meant I would miss the tour, I told him not to bother. BTW, I was sent the name and driver’s phone number. But when we called, he wasn’t the driver.
Response from the operator: Hello There, Could you please provide us with more details? We do not offer transfers from the ships to our boatyard. This experience takes place in Negombo and is only available to travelers staying in or around Negombo and its suburbs. Best regards. Premil & Real Lanka Team

Pleasant motorboat ride; Interesting ecosystem
This was a very pleasant boat ride through an interesting ecological area in a small motorboat. The guide was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and ecosystem, however the afternoon is not the best time of day for birdwatching and seeing much wildlife. I also did not know that my transportation to and from was not included in the $30 price. Unfortunately, as a solo traveler, the cost was for the entire boat. For me, as a solo traveler, I don’t feel that it was worth what I paid. For several, traveling together, the cost would be reasonable. This is one of the drawbacks to traveling solo, so that part is on me and not the guide with the boat.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. It appears that your review might have been posted to our page in error, as it pertains to a different business. We encourage you to direct your comments to the correct company so they can address your concerns appropriately. If there is anything specific we can assist you with, please let us know.

An issue with pick up arrangements
Unfortunately we decided not to take this boat trip. When we booked it, the details stated that it included pick up from hotel or convenient central point in Negombo. We booked it ahead and contacted the provider to check where the pick up point was. We were staying at a Negombo hotel that was a few kilometres from the centre of town. The operator said there would be an additional charge. We would expect this to be around 500 to 600 rupees to take a tuk-tuk. We asked what the charge would be and the cost was confirmed at 15,000 rupees! We felt that this was not consistent with the advertised detail so cancelled it with the operator. By the time we had established all this the trip was less than 24 hours away so we are going to have to pursue a claim for a refund. We would advise caution and ensuring you have established pick up arrangements when booking to avoid a similar issue.
Response from the operator: Dear Mr. Tony Harvey, We are sorry to hear about your disappointment with our service. Our policy clearly states that we offer pick-up services from hotels in Negombo, not from suburban areas. Additionally, the fare of 500 LKR (approximately £1.20) is not a standard rate for such a ride unless there are special circumstances. Despite this, we have processed a full refund for your convenience. Kind regards,

Negombo lagoon
The team were so kind and helpful! The guide took us on the tour and was very informative and gave us loads of information about the wildlife we saw. We were able to witness monitor lizards, monkeys, white bellied gulls and lots of other rare birds. The guide took us for lunch afterwards and was able to provide loads of information about Sri lanka and the culture. 100% recommend!

Why this scores 46
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Negombo.
How much does Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Negombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Negombo is not rushed.
Is Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.6/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Negombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Negombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Negombo and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Negombo Lagoon & Muthurjawela Bird Watching Boat Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Negombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Negombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Negombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Car & Driver for 07 Days Tour In Sri Lanka, Most Popular Round Tour in Sri Lanka (10 Days), Highly recommended multi day tour in Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Negombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Negombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
