Namhansanseong Fortress
About Namhansanseong Fortress Namhansanseong Provincial Park surrounds Namhansanseong Fortress, one of four forts built to protect Hanyang (the former name of Seoul). Gaeseong, Suwon, Ganghwa and Gwangju are located in the north, south, west, and east direction respectively. Namhansanseong Fortress is located to the east in Gwangju. The park is situated on Namhansan Mountain, 24km southeast from Seoul and 6km northeast from Seongnam. The length of trails is a total of approximately 12.4 km (main fortress 8.9km, external fortress 3.2km, Sinnamsanseong Fortress 0.2km). The height is 7.3m. Namhansanseong’s circumference is approximately 12km, stacking small natural stones over big stones. The fortress includes Sueocheong (Defense Command), Gwana (government office), storage, and a haenggung (temporary palace), as well as 80 wells and 45 springs. Also, administration was moved from Gwangju to inside of the fortress, clearly showing the importance of Namhansanseong Fortress.

Korean Folk Village
About Korean Folk Village Lying in a spacious site of 990,000㎡ and in nature-given geomantic location ‘facing water and backgrounded by mountains’, Korean Folk Village (KFV) is a village from the Joseon period composed of real houses relocated from provinces of the country. Reconstructed through a long survey of houses remaining in different parts of the country and authentication by specialists, it is a real village from the Joseon period that unfolds in seasonal transformation scenes from everyday folk culture meticulously collected. The village was created with common people’s houses and aristocrats’ houses relocated or restored from different parts of the country such as south, middle, north, and islands. It presents the real life from old Joseon life, which includes gwana (provincial government office), seowon and seodang (the educational institute), hanyakbang (the medical institution), Buddhist temples and seonangdang (the religious buildings), and the fortune-teller’s place.

It was a great tour...
It was a great tour overall but the tour guide, BJ, was phenomenal. The most respectful and knowledgeable.

Amazing hike
BJ was an excellent guide. Be prepared for a lot of hiking. I know it says walking tour, but I wasn't prepared for how much hiking there is at Namhansanseong. That said, the views are worth every second of the hike. You can almost see Namsan Tower. BJ was very knowledgeable, and it made for a great trip. Thanks BJ!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the nice review. And best compliment for our great guide BJ. But please do not misunderstand that this tour is as a hiking tour. Just walk in the forest and enjoy the view. There are other option to go city fortress called Suwonhwaseong. If tourist want to walk in the city wall.

Fantastic day out!
What a great day! Our guide, David, was fantastic. He was sensitive to our age/fitness level and adjusted the pace as necessary. We had great conversation, and he taught me some Korean. It was a very active (18K steps) day with plenty of steep grades and stairs. It was a cool sun-shiney day that we very much enjoyed. I highly recommend this tour filled with Korean history!
Response from the operator: Wonderful..!! We really appreciate that you had fantastic day with great guide David.

Exceptional day tour!
I highly recommend this tour of both the UNESCO Namhansanseong Fortress and Korean Folk Village. Each location is interesting and worthy of a visit on its own, but together they create a perfect combination of nature, history, and culture! This was our second tour with (Chance) Kim (after hiking up Baegundae Peak) and we enjoyed the day with him as he guided us through both sites. Namhansanseong Fortress is located in beautiful mountains outside of Seoul, and we had amazing views as we hiked along the fortress wall to the top of Namhansan mountain. After visiting the fortress, we stopped at a restaurant where Kim ordered a very large and delicious lunch. We then drove to the Folk Village where Kim gave us an extensive tour through the historical houses and village displays. He also gave us ample time to explore the village on our own, which was great! We were able to watch several musical and dance performances, wander through other parts of the village, and even shop for souvenirs and buy ice cream. Amazingly, in spite of the full day's itinerary, Kim managed to drop us off at our hotel exactly 9 hours after picking us up! I highly recommend this tour for everyone!
Response from the operator: Wonderful..!! Here is our best guide Chance response. "I was so glad to have a chance for being your guide of 2 tours Bukhansan and Namhansanseong. I've seen your sister's(Joan and Jane) passion that you loved nature and hiking of Korea. Thank you so much..!! And this review gave me a very positive influence to provide more nice tours for giving other tourists. See you again..!!"

Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seoul.
How much does Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $58 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seoul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seoul is not rushed.
Is Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seoul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seoul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seoul and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Namhansanseong UNESCO Historical Sites and Korean Folk Village-Private Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seoul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Seoul?
+
On Outty we rank every Seoul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include DMZ Tour: Defector Q&A, Tunnel & Suspension Bridge /Hotel pick up, Best DMZ Tour Seoul: Defector Q&A, 3rd Tunnel & Suspension Bridge, Seoul: Gyeongbok Palace, Hanok Village, and Gwangjang Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Seoul?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Seoul?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
