100% must do!
Must do!! 1 of the best experiences we had in Vietnam. Would definitely recommend the market tour before as well. Thom did an amazing job teaching about the food/cooking and the Vietnamees habits.

Must do when in Hoi An!
One of the (of probably the) most amazing experience we have had in Vietnam! From the early morning market to the boat trip to grandma’s kitchen on the river Island, everything was amazing. Thuum (Thom) and het family are fabulous hosts! Friendly, knowledgeable and of course great cooks (and instructors). We have learned a lot, had great fun doing karaoke on the boat and the meal was so tasty! Would definitely book again if I had the chance!

An authentic cooking experience with 'family' in their village
My Grandma’s Home Cooking Class was one of the highlights of our trip to Hoi An. Instead of just another cooking class in a hotel or restaurant in Hoi An, this was also an interesting excursion to a rural village outside Hoi An. And, excitedly, ‘Grandma’ turned out to be our guide Thom’s own grandmother, now 101. She no longer meets guests because of her age and blindness, but it was still exciting to see ‘Grandma’ from a distance as she still lives in her small house on the property. I would highly recommend this cooking class as a very authentic experience and glimpse into rural family life. The cooking classes are conducted outdoors, under cover, at the back of the family property. While other family members prepared the ingredients, we had time to sit down with our guide/cooking teacher Thom and talk to her about growing up in this village and life, generally, in Vietnam. During the cooking demonstrations, Thom’s aunty and other relatives from their house across the little natural pathway dropped in to say hello – and some of the neighbours said hello while walking past. We were very glad we took Thom’s advice to eat a light breakfast. With her easy to follow instructions, we cooked a few meals which we then enjoyed eating. There was plenty of very tasty food! The journey to the village, with Thom and a driver in a private car, was a great opportunity to experience the countryside and we really enjoyed the approx. 40-minute boat trip back to Hoi An – a different view of fishermen and their riverside homes. And, now back in Australia, we are looking forward to cooking ‘Grandma’s’ own special recipes from her recipe book we were given on our return to the office.

Traditional experience with a local village guide
Fantastic Day with our wonderful guide and Chef Thom!! She was so knowledgeable, and shared lots of local stories and information. A perfect opportunity to get out of the tourist areas and have an experience in a local village. The food we cooked was delicious and we will easily be able to make again at home.

My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hoi An.
How much does My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hoi An usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hoi An is not rushed.
Is My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 88 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 167 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Hoi An, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An?
+
Around 58 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hoi An can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hoi An and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does My Grandma's Home Cooking Class in Hoi An start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hoi An within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hoi An?
+
On Outty we rank every Hoi An experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include HOI AN Hidden Gems in Rural Villages & River Islands PRIVATE TOUR, Coconut Jungle Eco & Hoi An City Tour With Boat Ride, Cooking Class Hoi An:Local Market, Basket Boat, Fishing & Cooking. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hoi An?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hoi An?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
