    Layover in Beijing

Definitely worth the time to do some touring around Beijing, we had a 20hr layover and jumped on a tour last minute. Got to get to the Great Wall and also Summer Palace. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable about the history of China. We also made some extra stops tailored to our requests..

    Perfect from beginning to end

I had a 24 hrs layover in Beijing and wanted to do a private tour of the great wall and Forbidden city. I emailed Daniel and from the first exchange he was absolutely on the ball and replied very swiftly every time I had a query. He is a top operator and suggested times and itinerary accordingly to my needs and also provided insights on the day of the tour as I was traveling during a very busy holiday time in China. On the day if the tour I was greeted by Nina at the airport, she is a gem if a tour guide and immediately brought me to the car and private driver waiting outside. We drove to Mutianyu and on the way Nina gave me a great overview of Chinese history and introduction to the Great wall. Once arrived we were also able to skip the queue and got the Cable car up. I was given more information and them left to experience the the great wall on my own which was fantastic.Nina also suggested a great place for breakfast as I had built up an appetite going up and down the wall. We then drove to Beijing and again Nina was very thorough with the facts and info regarding the different sights. Throughout the tour she asked if I was interested in different experiences and customized my experience accordingly and her English was fantastic in order to understand exactly what was going on. The driver also was unbelievable (apologies I forgot the name) troughout the journey. At the forbidden city we entered through the prebooked entrance, all organized by Daniel in advance. Nina came with me for a good couple if hours and guided my entire time at the unbelievable forbidden city and also left some time for to wander on my own. We ended up having a tea tasting and a fantastic lunch at a restaurant I had asked to recommend. I was then dropped back at a hotel I ore booked before flying back. Overall it was perfect for me and I am sure their group tours reflectbthe same professional approach. Look no further than Beijing Layover tour if you want to experience all there is to see in Beijing in a short time, Nina is an outstanding guide and as I travel extensively I rarely came across someone with this wealth of knowledge and personality. Thank you...A++++++

Perfect day in Beijing with our tourguide Herbie !

We had a great day with our guide Herbie and our driver Mr. Li ! Herbie came to our hotel in the morning and we started the visit with Tianmen Square and then the forbidden City, different Hutongs and finally the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Herbie knew a lot of details and information to every stop. It was great and an extraordinary day. Mr. Li drove us through Beijing and all the traffic jam. Thanks to Mr. Li too. We can highly recommend this tour ! Perfect organisation, if have a layover, choose this tour !

Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 88 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour?

    +

Around 31 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mutianyu Great Wall & Forbidden City Private Layover Guided Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
