Learn about the Cherokee people at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. Your general admission ticket includes access to the museum and the following exhibits. Story of the Cherokees: 13,000 Years Voted Top Ten best Native American Experiences by USA TODAY, you'll experience 13,000 years of Cherokee history, from the time when mastodons roamed the southern Appalachians to present day. This story is told through computer generated animation and special effects, life-sized figures, artwork and priceless artifacts. Emissaries of Peace: 1762 Cherokee & British Delegations Travel with Henry Timberlake to the Cherokee world in 1762 and see London through the eyes of Cherokee leaders who met with King George III. Timberlake’s Memoirs come to life through artifacts, archaeological treasures, period artwork, music, video and life-sized figures. Two contrasting cultures emerge from war and make peace. Special pop-up books and graphic panels help tell the story for children. The museum also hosts many traveling exhibits such as We the People. This exhibit has been featured not only at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian but also the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and the McClung Museum at the University of Tennessee. It shows the perspectives of Cherokee culture and colonial British culture through the narrative of Henry Timberlake¹s Memoirs, illustrated with artifacts, artwork, reproductions, video, and life size figures. All exhibits, restrooms, Museum Store and Education Wing are ADA accessible. Service animals are permitted. Handicapped parking available in front of entrance.

Disappointed! Years later and it's still empty displays.
I was highly disappointed. While I respect the ethical removal of sacred burial artifacts, this transition has been ongoing since 2021, and the museum still has several empty cases. A huge portion of the historical collection has been stripped out. You walk through rooms of empty glass displays with placeholder notes reading "interpretation panel coming soon." Much of the remaining space is filled with modern art and blue panels pushing a heavy socio-political commentary. I left feeling completely unwelcomed and targeted as a paying guest. There is a way to address a brutal history without alienating the tourists who came to learn and support the community. I understand you have a message you want to get across but it mostly feels like you don't want visitors there at all. Charging full admission price for an aggressive, years-long "work in progress" feels wrong. They need to rebrand this as a modern art gallery so tourists aren't misled. Save your money.

Could use improvements.
Sadly we had hoped to find out more on the life and past of Cherokee Indians. We watched the 20 minute video hoping that it told some of the history. However it was more of an advertisement. The museum n mainly things you read and not as informative as we had hoped.

Inspirational Museum
Visited this Museum on a Monday morning in September. While the museum is undergoing changes to itself and how they contextualize their history, it is a fascinating museum. The experience itself was well worth it--not just from learning more about the Cherokee People but also about other Native communities throughout U.S. history. I left with a deep appreciation for the culture and People.

Finding Our Roots
What a great museum of Eastern Cherokee People. My husband is on the Cherokee rolls but had never been here. Reading the history and seeing the artifacts was so special for both of us. We made it part of a day trip from Pigeon Forge through the Smoky Mountains and it was perfect.

A Delightful Visit
The museum is wonderfully thought out and put together. Access into the building is easy and everyone there was so helpful. It was so impressive to see the artifacts and see them presented in a concise timeline. It allows you to put faces and details with long ago stories. They are planning future updates and I can't wait to visit again!
