2-hour tour in one of the less famous and most impressive museums in the world: The Convent San Marco, with its cells of the Dominican friars and the cell where Cosimo The Elder Medici used to pray! Each cell has been frescoed by Beato Angelico, one of the great painters of the Renaissance and a friar himself. Here we visit the Refectory with the marvellous Last Supper by Domenico del Ghirlandaio, the famous Medici library and also the cell of the Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola, who was burnt at the stalk in Piazza Signoria. His dress is still there, with the marks of the burning, more than 500 years old! The astonishing Basilica San Marco is the burial place of Agnolo Poliziano and Girolamo Savonarola. Of course we'll visit it as well!

Poorly Presented, and Not Worth Your Time in Florence
Poorly Presented, and Not Worth Your Time in Florence Save your money and your time. The Museo di San Marco is an example how not to do it. The Audioguide Incompetence: They will happily charge you $10 for an audioguide, but here is the catch: none of the artworks have numbers on them. You will wander room after room trying to match a disembodied voice to a painting with zero visual cues. It is completely useless. You have essentially paid to be confused and frustrated. Art Ripped from Context: The convent itself is interesting, but the curators have turned its soul into a sterile gallery. Major works have been ripped from their original settings and hung on plain walls like merchandise. Altarpieces designed to inspire awe from below now sit at eye level, stripped of meaning. The art loses its purpose, and you lose the chance to understand it. The Verdict: If you only have a day or two in Florence, there are far better ways to spend it. This one is a classic tourist trap.

Entering the first cloister... Time slows down .. and walking ... step by step .. admiring beautiful masterpieces of an ancient art .... time takes you back to a distant time but still present ... climbing the staircase that leads to the upper floor where the cells of the friars who made those places of Christian spirit, welcomes you the Mother of all mothers who placidly listens to the words of the Angel. We got Piazza San Marco...
We got Piazza San Marco for our private tour to be told the museum was closed on Monday. The tour company did not know the hours were changed. I should have received an email or phone call so I could do something else. We have limited time in Florence and San Marco was something I really wanted to see. The tour guide gave us the option of visiting Palazzo Medici. I had already been there years before but the other 3 in my family had not. We went there since we were had gotten up early and walked 30 minutes to the meeting point.
