Kehlsteinhaus
The Eagle's Nest or Kehlsteinhaus was built in 1937-1938 as a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday. The building is an architectural masterpiece with fantastic views, rising on a narrow rocky ridge at an altitude of 1,834 metres in the middle of the Bavarian Alps near the Alpine town of Berchtesgaden. A visit to the Eagle's Nest is fascinating, your private English-speaking driver will take you to the car park, where a local bus will take you along a steep 6.5km long path carved into the rock. In 15 minutes you'll climb 700 metres. But that's not all. When you reach the upper car park, you'll have to walk through a marble-lined tunnel and then take a luxurious period lift up another 124 metres. There, you'll find not only the interior of the once-famous villa, but also the restaurant and, of course, stunning panoramic views of the Alps.

You’ve go to visit the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt
I had one of the most memorable days of not only my trip but my entire life. Tomas was exemplary. He really knows his history, is so personable, and he’s a very nice and sincere guy. He shared all of his vast knowledge of Bavaria and because this is my second tour with him, we have become friends. The Audi Forum is phenomenal, and if you’re a car guy like me, it’s a must see. I guarantee you will love it! The Audis are incredible. The inclement weather conditions made things a little difficult, but not with Tomas. He improvised and went out of his way to make my excursion memorable. Viator is my company of choice for all of my future trips, and Tomas is my tour guide whenever I visit Munich again. Danke!

Stress-free excursion!
My son and I really wanted to go to the Eagle's Nest and Halstatt but I was hesitant of Austria's rules regarding foreign drivers (needing an international driving license/special vignette). With this tour, I did not have to worry about anything. Josef picked us up right on time at our AirBnb and drove us to all of the sites. He communicated with us very well through WhatsApp before and during the trip. They also explained when to buy online tickets for entrance into the Eagle's nest based on our pickup time. We were picked up at 8am, had a 2-hour drive and then had enough time to visit the documentation center (about 1 hour) before heading up to the mountain retreat. We spent two hours there and was able to modify our bus ticket down to an earlier time slot and was able to communciate that with Josef. After that, he drove us to Halstatt and gave us options of other places we might go based on our time. We even made a quick side trip to another beautiful lake. The car was clean and comfortable and even though it was a pricey trip, I had peace of mind and the day was stress-free. IJosef is courteous, professional and could answer any questions we had. I would highly recommend.

Not Worth It
The view at Eagle’s Nest is beautiful, but for us it was not worth the long drive from Munich. The bus ride up a very narrow and winding road, only to learn it’s really just a restaurant up top with a view. Very disappointing. In addition, we were told to purchase tickets for a certain time, but our driver was late and then we were stuck in traffic. We had to beg the bus driver to let us on since they told us our tickets were no longer valid. Hallstatt, while pretty is overrated. It’s very crowded. We also spent 1 1/2 hours driving there to only have 45 minutes to walk around. Lastly, the driver had so much cologne on it made us nauseous for the long ride.
Response from the operator: Dear Melanie, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that this experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few important points regarding the day. According to our GPS records and the communication with your driver, the driver was at the hotel area on time for the scheduled 8:00 AM pickup. There was some traffic near the hotel, and the driver communicated with you directly to coordinate the exact pickup point. Regarding the Eagle’s Nest bus tickets, we understand this situation may have felt stressful. However, our team stayed in contact with you during the trip and actively assisted with the bus timing. The tickets were adjusted for you, there was no additional charge, and you were able to take the bus and visit Eagle’s Nest. We also understand that you chose to spend more time there before continuing the trip. Unfortunately, traffic conditions in the Berchtesgaden / Eagle’s Nest area can be unpredictable, especially during busy periods, and they are outside of our control. We always do our best to adjust the itinerary and help our guests when delays happen. Regarding Hallstatt, we fully understand your impression. Hallstatt is beautiful, but it has become extremely crowded in recent years due to overtourism. Local authorities, police, and residents have introduced stricter rules and restrictions, which can affect access, parking, timing, and the overall visitor experience. We do inform travelers that Hallstatt can be very busy, especially in peak season. We are sorry that the long driving distances, traffic, crowds, and timing made the day feel disappointing for you. This route covers several very popular alpine destinations in one day, and while many guests enjoy the scenic journey, we understand that it may not feel worthwhile for everyone. We also regret your comment regarding the driver’s cologne and will address this internally with the driver, as guest comfort during a long private trip is important to us. We would also like to mention that we know this driver very well and have worked with him for a long time with consistently excellent feedback from our customers. This was the first complaint of this kind we have received regarding him. Our team did its best to support you throughout the day, communicate with you, adjust the bus tickets, and keep the trip moving despite traffic and local restrictions. We are sorry that the overall experience still left you disappointed, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve how we set expectations for future travelers. Kind regards, The Europe Journey Team

John our driver was...
John our driver was great. Beautiful weather at Eagles Nest. Hallstatt is a nice little town but the quaintness is not what it appears. Very crowded and touristy. Overall a good time however.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that John helped make your day enjoyable and that you had beautiful weather during your visit to Eagle’s Nest. Hallstatt can certainly be very lively and popular with visitors, especially during peak travel periods, but we’re glad you still enjoyed the atmosphere and overall experience of the trip. It’s wonderful to know the journey was a good time overall and that the combination of destinations created memorable moments for you. We truly appreciate your balanced feedback and hope to welcome you on another Europe Journey experience in the future.

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Munich.
How much does Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip cost?
+
Prices start at $135 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Munich usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Munich is not rushed.
Is Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Munich, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Munich can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Munich and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Munich to Hallstatt and Salzburg a Private Day Trip start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Munich within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Munich?
+
On Outty we rank every Munich experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guided Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site Tour with Train from Munich, Munich Classic Bike Tour @ 11.30am with Surfers & beergarden stop, Dachau Memorial Half-Day Tour from Munich (Early-Start). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Munich?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Munich?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
