What you'll see and do

  1. Berchtesgaden

The Eagle's Nest or Kehlsteinhaus was built in 1937-1938 as a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday. The building is an architectural masterpiece with fantastic views, rising on a narrow rocky ridge at an altitude of 1,834 metres in the middle of the Bavarian Alps near the Alpine town of Berchtesgaden. A visit to the Eagle's Nest is fascinating, your private English-speaking driver will take you to the car park, where a local bus will take you along a steep 6.5km long path carved into the rock. In 15 minutes you'll climb 700 metres. But that's not all. When you reach the upper car park, you'll have to walk through a marble-lined tunnel and then take a luxurious period lift up another 124 metres. There, you'll find not only the interior of the once-famous villa, but also the restaurant and, of course, stunning panoramic views of the Alps.

  2. Salzburg

Salzburg is the pearl of the Austrian region and the famous birthplace of the world's most famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Set on the banks of the River Salzach, the city is surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery and dominated by the monumental Fortress Hohensalzburg, perched on the Mönchsberg mountain. As well as its rich history and stunning architecture, the city is also famous as the location for the film musical The Sound of Music. The city's baroque old town is one of the largest UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. Here you will find breathtaking palaces such as Mirabell and Hellbrunn, museums, cathedrals and of course Mozart's house on the Getreidegasse. This particular street is a mecca of upmarket shops, cafes and restaurants where you can indulge in some of the local specialities. Salzburg is also known as the city of Mozart. Several music festivals are held here each year. At Christmas, the famous Christkindlmarkt is held in the heart of the old town.

Perfect trip for our travel schedule

Our driver was great, on time (actually early), drove safely, and courteous. This was the perfect way to see the Eagles Nest and easily continue on with our other European adventures. The drive to eagles nest from Munich was about 2 hours. We spent about 3 hours there including grabbing lunch and walking around. It was a perfect overcast day. Then about 45 minutes to our hotel in Salzburg. It was worth the cost of being picked up and dropped off at our hotels and not having to worry about dragging our luggage around.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words! We’re glad your driver made the trip smooth and enjoyable, and that the visit to Eagle’s Nest fit perfectly into your journey. We’d be happy to welcome you again on future travels!

Great day in the German and Austrian Alps

We had a great day touring the German and Austrian Alps. Our driver Tomáš was excellent and although the tour description indicated that the drivers are not actually tour guides, I would say Tomáš is as good as any tour guide we have used across many trips in Europe. He knew the area very well and was able to share a lot of historic knowledge mixed with a good amount of humor. Given that we spent a considerable amount of time in the car, the laughs made it go very quickly…The other thing that made this an exceptional tour was Tomas’s depth of knowledge in and around Salzburg. He knew both the notable landmarks and quite a few less known, but very interesting places to see and where to get some great food.

Response from the operator: Dear, John. Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had a great day touring the German and Austrian Alps and that Tomáš exceeded your expectations. It’s fantastic that his knowledge, humor, and insights into Salzburg and the surrounding area made the journey enjoyable and memorable. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with him, and we hope to welcome you on another tour soon!

Silent Night

We took this tour to Salzburg to see it decorated for Christmas and to visit the Christmas Markets. The description specifically says that we will have an English speaking driver. We did not. He barely even spoke a few words. We had to communicate with hand gestures and Google translate. It was very difficult. He was very very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible. Which we really appreciate, but we really needed someone who could speak English. The two hour drive to Salzburg was silent. The two hour drive back to Munich we all slept because we couldn’t talk to him. We were pretty disappointed.

Be careful of the seasons.

Eagle's Nest was closed. The alternate trip to Konigsee ended up being closed. Unfortunately we didn't know that until we got there. We ended up going to Salzburg. And that was fabulous. I wish we had spent the whole day in Salzburg.

Response from the operator: Hi, Edyth! Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s disappointing when unexpected closures affect plans, but we’re so glad to hear that Salzburg turned out to be a highlight for you! It’s truly a beautiful city with so much to offer. We appreciate your flexibility and hope your time in Salzburg made up for the unexpected changes.

Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Munich.

How much does Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg cost?

+

Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Munich usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Munich is not rushed.

Is Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Munich, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Munich can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Munich and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Munich Private Day Trip with Optional Eagle's Nest & Salzburg start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Munich within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Munich?

+

On Outty we rank every Munich experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guided Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site Tour with Train from Munich, Munich Classic Bike Tour @ 11.30am with Surfers & beergarden stop, Dachau Memorial Half-Day Tour from Munich (Early-Start). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Munich?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Munich?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
