About this experience

Experience Mt Wellington's easiest and most accessible adventure ride. This self-guided journey explores up to 33km of the lower slopes of Mt Wellington along the heritage-listed Pipeline Track. Ride through towering temperate rainforest, past waterfalls, historic aqueducts and stunning mountain scenery, with frequent opportunities to spot wallabies, pademelons, echidnas and even the occasional wedge-tailed eagle. The trail's gentle gradients and smooth gravel surface make it ideal for beginners, families and recreational riders. A gentle, gradual climb is rewarded with a memorable 20km descent through some beautiful and interesting country. Follow the route of Hobart's historic water supply pipeline and discover fascinating remnants of early engineering. Despite being just minutes from the city, the ride feels wonderfully remote and immersed in nature, and you can choose a distance to suit your time, fitness and sense of adventure.

Great experience....book it!

Transferred to fern tree and (self guided) cycled the pipeline track. Really easy, pleasant ride with fabulous views back to the bike shop. Finished with a great lunch at the ginger brown cafe next door. Best bikes we have hired and really friendly helpful staff. Thank you Phil and Olly. Highly recommend

Response from the operator: Thank you for riding with us. The self guided pipeline ride with shuttle is becoming a crowd favourite. Ginger Brown is a perfect place to refuel and a ride. We are so lucky to have this local favourite next door to our shop. Warm regards Olly and Phil

Great experience!!!

Zoe was super accomodating in moving our bike hire and shuttle forward last minute as the weather was meant to go bad the day we booked. She was friendly and full of advice and recommendations and helped make sure we didn’t lose out on our experience because of weather/time. She even refunded the extra summit fee as we couldn’t fit that in anymore. Bikes and helmets were great. Would definitely recommend. We just rode on our own, and trails weren’t busy at all. Outstanding customer service!!

Response from the operator: Thank you for posting a review of your experience. We are thrilled you had a great day riding the mountain. I hope you will ride wth us again next time you are in Hobart. All the best, Zoe, Phil, Rich.

A must do Adventure while in Hobart

Really great experience for the adventure lovers in a mountain bike mecca. We did the big day out tour and couldn't be more happy with the service and equipment from Tasmanian Mountain Bike Adventures. They provided is with 2 modern bikes ( one electric) that were well maintained and in excellent condition and a back pack with spare tubes and equipment just in case ( that we didn't need to use fortunatly). Rich from TMBA drove us up mount Wellington and provided us with trivia and history of the mountain and of Hobart that was interesting along with a comprehensive overview of the trails that complimented maps provided on Trail Forks. D3finaly a must do for any Mountain Bike enthusiasts while in Hobart

Response from the operator: Hi! Thanks for posting a review of your MTB adventure on Mt Wellington. We are delighted that you had such a great time. Please join us again for some more action next time you visit. All the best, Rich, Phil, Zoe

Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hobart.

How much does Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure cost?

+

Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hobart usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hobart is not rushed.

Is Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hobart, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hobart can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hobart and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mt Wellington Rainforest Self Guided Off Road Bike Adventure start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hobart within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hobart?

+

On Outty we rank every Hobart experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus- Return Tour (2.5 hours), Full-Day Guided Bruny Island Tour from Hobart, All Inclusive Bruny Island Day Tour Plus Guided Lighthouse Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hobart?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hobart?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
