About this experience
The Hoa Binh Hill tribes are located in the Northwest of Vietnam, 75km from Hanoi. Hoa Binh Province is home to six minority groups, including the Hmong, Muong, Dao and Thai. The area changed drastically after the largest hydro power plant in Southeast Asia was built, turning the Da River into a lake. Still, today the province boasts some of Vietnam most beautiful scenery and typical Muong culture. This tour to visit the Muong minority group will give you the opportunity to explore, learn, and truly experience rural life in Vietnam.

What you'll see and do
Giang Mo Village
The northern province of Hoa Binh has long been home to Muong ethnic people. Although the province is not far from the capital, the Muong culture has many special features that distinguish it from majority Kinh society. Visiting Giang Mo Village, I experienced this culture firsthand.

Very interesting and relaxing day
This was a very interesting trip to the northwest outside of Hanoi to a small traditional village of the Muong people, one of many traditional ethnic groups. A two hour drive in a comfortable car with a guide. We first visited a very old wooden home on stilts, one of the few remaining original homes in the village. We met the older couple that live there, sitting on the floor and having homemade banana wine, tea and bananas. Then we walked a bit to another, newer home with a younger couple, and had a delicious traditional lunch (sitting on stools) and chatting with the woman owner using Google translate. Then a little stroll through the rest of the village and the long ride home. Whole trip was about 7 hours. Town has about 200 residents. Guide was very helpful and informative.
Response from the operator: Hello Jenny, Thank you very much for your great review. I'm delighted to hear that you have enjoyed the Mountain Day Trip tour. Have a great day !

A very professional and customized tour
Anh’s tour was professionally coordinated and we learned a lot about Muong people and others, from the family we visited and our informative tour guide Anh. I had a couple of odd requests (wanted to try colorful xoi and to arrange a birthday surprise for my husband at lunch); and he kindly coordinated everything perfectly. The tour is more like a study trip without much actions, so it is highly recommended for those who already have done typical highlights like Ha Long Bay, pagodas, museums and want something different (and chill) to learn more about the VN culture. It was a nice relaxing yet intellectual day trip, having a tea and homemade banana wine with a local couple and chat about their traditions and life style. Cảm ơn, Anh! :)

Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.
How much does Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi cost?
+
Prices start at $74 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.
Is Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 47 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 2. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mountain Day Trip to Experience Muong Culture from Hanoi start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hanoi?
+
On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hanoi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hanoi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
