    Great experience

So fun! Jomblang cave was a unique experience. You're manually lowered in and out of the cave two at a time so there can be a lot of waiting around. Overall, it felt safe (Even for children) and was an interesting experience. A lovely lunch is served once you are out of the cave. book in advance, you can't always get walk up tickets at the gate. Pindul Cave was really fun. My family loved the relaxing float through the cave and down the river. The water was warm and there were a couple opportunities to jump from vairing heights and swim. Pack a hat/sunglasses and a change of clothes.

    Our driver and guide...

Our driver and guide Bibis was an excellent help. Very flexible for all our needs, and very knowledgeable about every stop. The trip was in a spacious vehicle just for us and it doubled as a good meeting point and storage area for each of the stops. We were handed off to a professional guide at each stop that took us on the activity and dropped us back to Bibis. The exchange of money at each stop was handled by Bibis which simplified everything. No tips were requested or expected from anyone. There was no breakfast provided so we packed some snacks but lunch was provided and it was a simple and nutritious plate of chicken and rice which we had at the jomblang cave stop after completing the activity. It is a long day with a lot of physical exertion so be ready to get tired and bring water and a change of clothes.

Intense, action packed day combining 3 must do activities.

Packed day starting at 04:30 from our hotel in Yogyakarta and ending being dropped back at 18:45. We ended up with what was essentially a private tour for our family of 5. Our guide/driver Himawan spoke very good English and ensured the trip ran smoothly. All 3 elements were really worthwhile in themselves and it compressed a lot of the visits we had wanted to do into a single albeit intense day! A few things to bear in mind are that the volcano section can feel surprisingly cold for Indonesia especially in the jeep with the wind. Also, you can leave extra items in the car whilst you are doing the activities so don’t worry about overpacking. Finally, on the Jamblang cave it is worth taking some water down to the start as you may be hanging around for a little while before your descent.

    Fun and beautiful!

We went for the caves-only option (to avoid an early start for Merapi sunrise) and loved it! My 8yr old son said it was the best day of his life. Both caves were fun and both beautiful. I’d happily go again tomorrow!

Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Yogyakarta.

How much does Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $17 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Yogyakarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Yogyakarta is not rushed.

Is Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 37 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Yogyakarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour?

    +

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Yogyakarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Yogyakarta and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mount Merapi Sunrise , Jomblang cave and Pindul Cave Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Yogyakarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Yogyakarta?

    +

On Outty we rank every Yogyakarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Yogyakarta Private Car Hire with Driver, From Surabaya / Malang : Mt Bromo Sunrise - Ijen Blue Fire 2D1N, Borobudur Full Climb Up And Prambanan ALL INCLUSIVE PRIVATE Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Yogyakarta?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Yogyakarta?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
