Mount Batur Sunrise Hike with Ketut Kertana

I wasn’t sure getting up at 1 AM to hike to the top of a dormant volcano would be worth it, it certainly was. These kinds of trips are all about the guide and we lucked out with Ketut. There are multiple routes to the top and my sense was he chose the best ones for the ascent and decent. He is clearly an experienced guide and knows all of the Bali peaks. His super power is taking pictures that were quickly posted by my wife. He has great energy and we enjoyed our time with him very much. He’s that good. As for the hike, it’s about an hour and 1/2 up and just under an hour down. Hiking in hiking boots or trail running shoes are preferred as it gets steep in sections and feet do slip and slide. However it’s nothing that one needs to overly train for. It does get chilly at the top so three layers would be the way to go with a windbreaker, a wicking long sleeve and a base layer will do the trick. The views are amazing so it’s a popular hike and there will be a crowd at the top. Earlier is better and don’t forget to turnaround and look at the moon on the way up. Tip: our moon was waxing crescent, I think it would be super cool to see a full moon on this trek. The cool thing about this company is that the start is at their farm and not at the trailhead with everyone else. It felt more personal with hot tea or coffee before the start was a nice touch.

Trek in the dark

Early morning start and mayhem with jeeps and motor cross bikes … however the end result is well worth it. Our guide … Putu was excellent and highly recommend him

10/10 would recommend - a highlight of our trip!

We had an amazing adventure climbing Mount Batur and then going whitewater rafting. Our guide was really careful and helped us when we had to walk over a few places with loose rocks (nothing too tricky, but she was great at making us feel safe). The top of the mountain was amazing! We could see everything from up there, and our pictures looked like postcards. After the hike, we went rafting, which was like being in a real-life Jungle Book! We saw waterfalls everywhere and the trees and plants made us feel like we were explorers. Our rafting guide was super fun and made the day even better. It was an amazing day from start to finish. Climbing the mountain and rafting through the jungle were both super exciting. My girlfriend and I had a blast and will always remember this adventure. It was the best day full of exploring and fun!

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience of climbing Mount Batur and going whitewater rafting. We are thrilled to hear that you had an amazing adventure and that both your guide during the hike and your rafting guide made the experience enjoyable and memorable for you. It's great to know that you felt safe and had fun exploring the beautiful surroundings. We are delighted that you had such a fantastic day full of excitement and exploration. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we hope to have the opportunity to create more unforgettable experiences for you in the future. Thank you for choosing us for your adventure!

15/10 Awesome!

It was really awesome! The driver and guides were all amazing and so was seeing the sunrise at Mount Batur. I didn't like the initial part of the walk since the road was crowded with other jeeps and bikes (which made it dusty and noisy and polluted) but the rest of the trip and the rest of the day were outstanding. Would highly recommend them to anyone.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent trip. We are thrilled to hear that you had an awesome experience and that our driver and guides were amazing. It's wonderful that you enjoyed witnessing the sunrise at Mount Batur. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the crowded road during the initial part of the walk. However, we are glad to know that the rest of the trip and the day were outstanding for you. We appreciate your high recommendation and thank you for choosing our services. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

Perfect adventure tour in Bali

We had an amazing trip to Mt Batur and rafting! It was an adventure packed day that was absolutely perfect. We were picked up promptly at 2:30 and our driver, Ady, was an excellent guide. The roads to Mt Batur are narrow and winding but he was great as we napped to our destination. After the hike, we chatted in the car about life in US vs Indonesia and we learned so much about the culture and experiences, something you don’t get in guidebooks. He was always there ready for us once we finished our excursions and the rafting also did not disappoint. We had some last minute questions the night before our tour, and the company wa a highly communicative and responsive. This is the absolute perfect adventure day in Bali!

Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seminyak.

How much does Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting cost?

+

Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seminyak usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seminyak is not rushed.

Is Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seminyak, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting?

+

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seminyak can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seminyak and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Ayung River Rafting start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seminyak within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Seminyak?

+

On Outty we rank every Seminyak experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Bali Waterfalls: Tibumana, Tukad Cepung and Tegenungan, Bali Instagram Tour: The Most Scenic Spots, Ubud Hot Springs and Waterfall Private Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Seminyak?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Seminyak?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
