About this experience

On this 6hour nature adventure you will see all the stunning beauty of the Arenal area. It doesn't come easy though. Narrow jungle trails and huge lava rocks need to be conquered. The reward is definitely worth the effort. Getting out of the jungle you reach the lava rocks right at the foot of the volcano. With the impressive Arenal looming over you, you realy get an idea of the immensity of this now silent giant. Making our way down your bilingual guide tells about the eco system and the wildlife we may encounter. Reaching the bottom part of the trek a emerald green clean water lake awaits us. You can jump in with a Tarzan swing and take time for a refreshing swim in this magnificently beautiful place. After this break we have a typical style lunch. To finish our experience we go to a small resort where we relax in natural hot water pools for about an hour.

What you'll see and do

  1. La Fortuna Arenal Volcano Rain Forest Reserve

Experience the real rainforest. On these ruggred trails you will pass huge trees, twisted vines and get the chance to see animals in their original habitat. Leaving the forest we pass a green lake and a cemetary of the people that got surprised by the 1968 mega erupution. Fom here we climb the wall of lava rocks and make our way through the lava fields that lay under Arenals shadow. At the highest point you have the volcanos cone right in front of you and you can enjoy an amazing 360view. Going down we pass more forest increasing our chances to see wildlife.

Amazing experience, must book

Such an amazing & inclusive experience. Hike: moderately intense as there are ~100 steps you have to climb through the terrain. Our 5&9 year old kids were with us and enjoyed it however my 5 year old got tired around the last 15 minutes. The hike is 2-2.5 hours then you go to the separate lunch location Lunch: good food consisting of rice, beans, chips, pork or chicken + salad. The restaurant has one side for your guess but the other side has additional items for purchase and the fresa (strawberry ice) + cafe con leche were amazing Hot springs: separate location from the hike, not far from lunch. This place exceeded our expectations as it contained 18 diff hot & cold springs +2 water slides for kids. We drove separately and were able to stay as long as we wanted once the tour was over Tour: Franklin our guide, was amazing and very knowledgeable and passionate about the information. We drove 2.5 hours in from San Juan & even though we were late, they sent us an alternate location to meet them instead of us using the bus services. This worked out great because they allow 1.5 hours for the springs but we stayed an additional hours with our kids.

Beautiful

Even with the volcano in the clouds and the rainy mist in the air it was a beautiful hike and well worth it.

Pick up at our Airbnb, 2h hike with the volcano view. Nice local food, delicious and a perfect ending

Our tour guide Axel was amazing. Really nice and took the time to really immerse us in the flora and the nature. The hike was a bit challenging but really rewarding

Unforgettable experience!

It was an amazing experience with Rasta as our guide. We saw so many animals in the rainforest right from the start, then hiked up the lava path from the last eruption ,which was an interesting story. After that we had a great lunch and finished with the fantastic hot springs. I recommend this tour to everyone!

Exceptional Experience

Errol was our trip guide and I can not express how grateful we were to get him as our guide. He made the entire experience magical. His deep knowledge of the plant and animal life was inspiring. And we learned so much about the history of the land and the volcano. We saw Tucans, wild turkeys and chickens, frogs, and howler monkeys and so much more. His knowledge of the plants was truly amazing. The lunch we had was a traditional Costa Rican lunch and they did not skip on the portions. The hot springs were the perfect way to end the experience. Can not rave enough about the experience, worth every penny.

Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.

How much does Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs cost?

+

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs take?

+

Plan for about 6.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.

Is Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 85 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs?

+

Around 30 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Morning Volcano Hike, Lunch & Hot Springs start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?

+

On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Fortuna?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
