Hopping-On to the Montreal Bus Tour Not Always Easily Done.
On a cold and windy September morning, we took an Uber from our **Hyatt Place Montreal Downtown** hotel to the tour departure point at **1001 Dorchester Square**, allowing plenty of time to board the first bus at 10:00 AM. Each passenger was given a green wristband confirming that we had paid for the tour. Our guide, **Julien (if I remember his name correctly)**, did an excellent job providing bilingual commentary throughout the ride. He seemed to have something interesting to tell us about almost everything we passed. The bus was a double-decker, with enclosed seating downstairs and open-air seating on the upper level. Given the chilly temperature and wind, my wife and I wisely chose to sit inside. Some hardier passengers chose the open upper deck and were fully exposed to the cold and wind. The seats inside were comfortable, and the seat belts were in good working order. My only criticism concerned the volume of the speaker carrying Julien's narration. Initially, my cellphone sound-meter app registered approximately **85–90 decibels**, which I found uncomfortably loud. To Julien's credit, he responded when the volume became an issue. His first adjustment made it too quiet, but the third setting was the charm—he got it just right. Julien was informative and engaging, and we decided to remain on the bus for almost the entire circuit rather than immediately hopping on and off. This gave us a good overview of Montreal and helped us get our bearings before exploring individual areas in greater depth. We did notice a potential drawback to the “hop-on, hop-off” concept. Many passengers, like us, remained aboard for much of the circuit. As a result, there appeared to be very little available seating for some of the people waiting to board at designated stops. Depending on how crowded the buses are, the ability to actually hop on and off when you wish may therefore be somewhat limited. I think the quality of this type of tour is also **highly dependent on the narrator**. A knowledgeable and engaging guide can transform what might otherwise be simply a bus ride into a worthwhile introduction to the city. We were fortunate to have Julien and were very pleased with his commentary. Despite the potential difficulty of reboarding a crowded bus, we found the tour to be a very good **first exposure to Montreal** and a useful way to become oriented to the city. **Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars.**

As usual a great way to see and learn about about the city
Toured Montreal on the Hop on hop off bus with another couple of friends last August. The previous day we arrived with a tour group and a scheduled city tour was somewhat ruined by a severe storm, that made the bus the following day well worthwhile as it was a bright sunny day letting us see even thing the storm had prevented! The commentary was generally good and in both French and English. We did get caught out later in the day when the last bus had gone leaving us a 1-2 km walk back to our hotel - somewhat self inflicted by not checking timetable well in advance.

Bicicleta detour
We enjoyed seeing the city and the humor of our guide Frederick. Would highly recommend for visitors to get a feel for what sites to see in Montreal. Unfortunately the bus was not able to take us to Mont Royal because of a bicycle race that weekend.

Montreal
When we booked our trip we were unaware that the World Cycling was happening on the weekend we booked. We went and booked the Hop On Hop Off tour for 2 days. Needless to say that due to the race that was happening on the weekend there were road closures and had to alter the usual routes. We travelled Thursday, Friday and the race was occurring Saturday and Sunday. There was confusion because we had electronic tickets but were told we needed to go to the head office and pick up our bracelets. This was frustrating because it was a 25min walk and thank goodness we do not have mobility issues but 4 seniors that were at our stop needed to take a taxi to head office. The line ups were huge and many people were unable to actually get on due to being full. I would not discourage others in taking this tour but double check what is happening in the city when you are planning your tour.

Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Montreal.
How much does Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $49 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Montreal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour take?
+
Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Montreal is not rushed.
Is Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.6/5 across 1,710 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Montreal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 48-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour?
+
Around 599 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Montreal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Montreal and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Montreal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Montreal?
+
On Outty we rank every Montreal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Old Montreal Walking Tour | Small Group (Max 10) | by MTL Detours, The Original Montreal Mural Arts Tour by Spade & Palacio, The Original Old Montréal Walking Tour by Guidatour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Montreal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Montreal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour?
+
Included: Local taxes; and Hop-on hop-off tour with bilingual guide (French and English). Not included: Gratuities; and Hotel pickup and drop-off. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
What languages is Montreal City Hop-on Hop-off Tour offered in?
+
