Misleading “Monkey Tour” — No Monkeys, Poor Communication
We booked the Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó expecting to see monkeys, but it was just a mangrove boat ride with none in sight. The advertising is deceptive — if you call it a monkey tour, people expect monkeys. We were supposed to be picked up at 8:00 a.m., but it was changed to 1:30 p.m. due to the tide surge, and no one contacted us — we had to call to find out. On the boat, everyone else we spoke to had tickets for the mangrovetour, not the monkey tour, which made it feel even more misleading. The scenery was fine, but the experience didn’t match what was sold. Poor communication and false advertising — I wouldn’t recommend it.

We'll do this trip again.
We'll do this trip again next time we are back in CR. Our guide, Joesph, was friendly and informative. The mangrove and the wildlife make for numerous memories. Also kudos to our driver, David, who took care of us.

A relaxing way to wrap up a busy vacation
We were fortunate enough to have Alberto for our tour guide for the mangrove tour today as well as at the Manuel Antonio National Park yesterday. We loved his passion for nature and conservation. He was such a great guide! The tour through the mangroves was a great way to wrap up our busy 10 day trip in Costa Rica. It was relaxing and informative. We saw lots of interesting birds as well as some snakes and monkeys as well. Our meal afterwards was delicious! It was such an enjoyable afternoon!
Response from the operator: What a perfect way to end a 10-day adventure! We are so happy you got to spend another day with Alberto on the Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó. It is always special when guests click with a guide | and we know Alberto loves sharing his passion for conservation with people who really appreciate it. The boat ride through the mangroves is definitely the best way to decompress while still seeing amazing wildlife like those snakes and monkeys. We are glad the meal hit the spot and that you flew home with great memories. Thanks for trusting us with two days of your trip!

Highly recommend this tour company!
Last week a group of six of us went on the Damas Island Mangrove Boat Tour, led by Jeremy, and we had a great time. We saw brown pelicans, ibis, herons, iguanas and other animals along the banks, and Jeremy was super knowledgeable about the different types of mangroves and all of the flora and fauna in the area. What was really special was that on the bus on the way back to Manuel Antonio, our bus driver spotted a pair of scarlet macaws and pulled over onto the side of the road so we could get out of the bus to take some photos. This really made our day! We also really appreciated the meal at the end of the tour. Thank you, Tucanes Tours, especially Jeremy, our boat captain, and our bus driver. All of them helped us spot animals!

Jeremy is awesome!
This was one of our favorite things we did while in MA. We had originally booked the kayaking trip but it was raining and the company offered to let anyone switch to the boat tour since it was covered. Even in the rain we had an amazing trip with Jeremy and saw SO MANY birds as well as a silky anteater which is an animal I didn’t even know existed! Truly memorable. Transport and lunch were easy breezy and we had a little bit of a late start due to some folks on the tour being late and not communicating well. The guide was so apologetic even though it wasn’t his fault at all and they threw in a free dessert. Also shout out to Hugo who was our kayak guide who gave us awesome info about the area on the bus ride over!
Response from the operator: Thank you for the 5-star rating! We are thrilled to know that you enjoyed our Mangrove boat tour. Your feedback motivates us to continue providing exceptional service to all our customers.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Jaco.
How much does Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó cost?
+
Prices start at $135 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Jaco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Jaco is not rushed.
Is Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Jaco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Jaco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Jaco and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Monkey Tour to Isla Damas Mangroves from Jacó start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Jaco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Jaco?
+
On Outty we rank every Jaco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, Hot Springs Combo Tour with Lunch & Dinner, Surf Lessons with Pro Team in Jacó, Jaco Beach Costa Rica Horseback Riding. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Jaco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Jaco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
