Fairytale butterfly scene!
This was an amazing experience. My girlfriend describes it as being in a magical fairytale- we had so many butterflies flying around us and in the forest. Please keep in mind- what you see is entirely random in terms of butterfly activity. The guides explain that they do not fly with it is cloud/overcast and stay clumped in the trees. Luckily we had a beautiful sunny day and we came in the peak season (Feb). We walked the first half and decided to ride the horses on the return hike which was really fun and worth the pesos. The meal you get for lunch was AMAZING as well. Probably one of the best meals of the trip to Mexico City. The atole and carne asada meal was so good and the fig bread appetizer was amazing. Im not sure white Americans would appreciate the meal, but coming from a Mexican American - It was bomb. Highly recommend this tour (come during peak season and cross your fingers it's a sunny day).

Life Changing Experience with the Monarch Butterfly
This was unbelievable experience We were lucky enough to visit on a warm Monday so literally we had the Mountain to ourselves 💙 Well worth the 3 hour car drive our driver and guide Marta Turísticos were wonderful and very safe driver. I didn’t realize how safe he was until we had a driver from hell when we went on a hot air balloon ride 2 days later. All in all I would highly recommend this trip it is something I will never forget💙
Response from the operator: Jeffrey We are glad to know that you really enjoy this amaizing experience! Yes, our drivers are trained to drive on that busy highway.

A Wonderful Adventure
It’s a wonderful adventure. Our guide was very knowledgeable, engaging and spoke English well. The hike is not for the faint of heart, but horses are available at extra cost if the hike is too much. Once at the summit, the son came out and the butterflies began to fly. It was absolutely magical. After our descent, we were served a delicious, authentic lunch. It was a long, but memorable day.
Response from the operator: We are glad to know that you enjoy this trip. This experience is a great opportunity to enjoy the landscape, to know local people and dave this magical moment in your memory. Thank you

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City cost?
+
Prices start at $148 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 11-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Monarch Butterfly Tour from Mexico City start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
