Mezcal is the most mythic plant in Mexico. The agave at the bottom of the glass may have grown for thirty years before anyone touched it, and the batch it produced will never be made the same way twice. If you have only had industrial mezcal, you have not had mezcal. Here it is the ancestral kind, made by hand by people with names. The first stop is an old-school mezcalería of the kind still found across the Mexican interior. Three spirits here show you the range of what Mexico distils, and give you the ground to stand on for what comes next. The second is a private tasting room, the most serious room on the route, built by a chef around one of the city's great agave collections. Three mezcals, each from a different plant and a different maker, each paired with one of her moles. This is where the craft shows the magic behind the plant. The last stop is a lively bar where you get hands-on and mix your mezcal cocktail to taste mezcal's full range. An immersive small-group experience.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Roma Norte

This is a guided Mexican spirits tasting, not a drinking tour. Across three specialist bars in Roma Norte, you'll taste five carefully selected spirits, a pulque-derived spirit from Los Juertes, your choice of snake-bottle sotol or a Guerrero mezcal, and three distinct mezcal expressions at Matuche, before closing with a Mezcal Paloma.

      10 minutes here

    2. Start with Los Juertes, a spirit distilled from pulque, one of Mexico's oldest drinks. Then choose one: sotol, served from a bottle with a coiled snake inside and made from Dasylirion (not agave), or a mezcal from Guerrero for guests who'd rather stay with agave.

      30 minutes here

    3. Taste three distinct mezcal expressions side by side, guided through what separates one from another: Máxima, an ensamble from Puebla; Huaxe, crushed with a stone tahona and fermented with wild yeasts in Oaxaca's Mixteca Alta; and Dr. Montesinos, from Agave durangensis. Compare the same mezcal in a clay jícara and in glass.

      40 minutes here

    4. The tour closes with a Mezcal Paloma shared among the group and a traditional Mexican toast.

    The best mezcal tour

The tour is incredible, Ale knows a lot about mezcals, and makes it super fun, the mole with the mezcal was something I didn't expect, I think it was a great idea, plus we didn't just have mezcal at the beginning, we tried tequila, distilled pulque, and sotol, then at the second restaurant we tried three different types of mezcals, each one completely different, and we finished by preparing our own drink at Barra Lupe. Ale shined, she had an answer for everything and completely mastered all the information related to mezcal.

    Great Mezcal Tour with Alejandro

We did the mezcal tour with Sherpa Tours and enjoyed it a lot. Alejandro was a knowledgeable and friendly guide — he explained the different types of mezcal, how it's made, and some of the regional differences in a clear, easy-to-follow way. The tastings were well organized and gave a good sense of the variety out there. Alejandro answered our questions patiently and shared some interesting background on the history and culture of mezcal along the way.

For every bad thing, a good mezcal

My friends and I traveled to CDMX from Acapulco and part of our activities was attending the tour. I felt a little nervous but it was an experience in which I had a lot of fun; there was a good atmosphere and the experience in general seemed interesting to me. During the tour we visited three places but my favorite was Matuche, they had very good mezcal and the mood of the place is very pleasant. I recommend the Máxima (mezcal), it was my favorite... plus they accompany the tasting with samples of different moles. They are all veeeery delicious. Overall, it was a great tour. I recommend it if you want to spend a pleasant evening.

Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.

How much does Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo cost?

    +

Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.

Is Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mezcal Experience Mexico City: 3 Bars, 6 Spirits & Cocktail demo start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

    +

On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Teotihuacan 3 Pyramids Tour + Hotel Pick Up + Lunch at La Gruta, Historic Center Essentials: Mexico City Downtown Walking Tour, PREMIUM Frida Kahlo Museum and Xochimilco (Small Groups). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mexico City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mexico City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
