History, Culture, Art & Religion in Beautiful Mexico City
My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Mexico City. As we had never been before, we wanted to book a private walking tour for a few hours. We are so happy we found this tour through Viator and even happier we had Ernesto as our guide. He was amazing. He had such a vast knowledge of history, culture, religion, architecture, food--you name it. He was so polite and professional, while also friendly and warm. And he must have eyes in the back of his head because he managed to walk backwards and not step into anything (or fall) so he could talk to us & maintain eye contact, and also made sure we did not trip or fall over anything. He gave us lots of great recommendations of other things to do a places to eat and also threw in some funny stories--both legend and urban legend. And the great thing about these guides/Ernesto is that they can customize the tour to a specific area(s) of interest.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled Ernesto helped make your honeymoon in Mexico City so memorable. It's great that you enjoyed his knowledge, storytelling, and personalized approach. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future. Congratulations again, and happy travels!

Sandra was flexible and a good guide
Sandra was very knowledgeable guide and very flexible with her time as well as a good communicator. During the very busy time of El Dia de Muerte she suggested we bike from our hotel to the historic area because of the crazy traffic and it was a great and fun solution.
Response from the operator: We’re thrilled to hear you had such a great time with Sandra. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to welcome you on another City Unscripted adventure soon!

Best way to see the highlights of Mexico City!!
My first time in Mexico City. The day before, I was able to visit the National Museum of History in Chapultepec Park which in of itself is amazing. The museum uses beautiful murals and artwork to tell the history of Mexico. I was able to apply what I learned to the tour. This tour ended being the last thing on my trip and I truly enjoyed it. Mexicans have a funny bone which I was able to point out and both the guide Adriana and I were able to laugh. Lots of history, lots of fun. Bring a water bottle, hat or parasol, and sunscreen, the sun is no joke. I started my tour at 0800 (3hrs). I chose the private tour b/c I wanted to go at my pace 🤗
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're glad that you enjoyed both the museum and the tour, and that Adriana could share some laughs with you along the way. Great tip about the sun, it's definitely strong out there! We hope to welcome you back to Mexico City someday!

The longer the better
Adriana created a custom 6-hour tour that totally suited us! We only wish we were staying longer to do another one. She took us to neighborhoods, museums, and restaurants that were amazing, and truly delighted us. Well worth it!
Response from the operator: I'm delighted to hear that Adriana tailored the tour to your preferences and that you enjoyed exploring the neighborhoods, museums, and restaurants she recommended. Can't wait to welcome you back for another adventure!

Best driver and or tour guide
Carmona Tours - Daniel Carmona at robertokrmona@hotmail.com was great .. patient, excellent english and knowledge of Mexico City. He knew the places, had a good clean car and advice about the places not crowded by tourists. Highly recommended guide and driver if you only want a chauffeur to drive around with.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs) cost?
+
Prices start at $16 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs) take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs)?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mexico City Like a Local: Private & Custom Experience (2-4 hrs) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
