An Enchanted Evening
I had an incredible night. I saw the bad review and almost cancelled, and I am so glad I did not let Karen sway me. This tool is way cool, places I never would have found, along with Chef Jorge, who is a tour on his own. Great stories about teaching culinary school. A LOT of alcohol; I was not drunk, drunk, but I did sleep well.

Pick something else! Waste of $$$
We have done food tours around the world. This experience was by far the worst value and experience we've ever had. We ate one taco, one Corona, split a hot chocolate and churro, and one glass of wine. We stopped at he speakeasy for a cocktail but, nothing was prearranged for our visit. So, the guide said we would have to come back. This is when we left the guide and went to have dinner at a place we loved. The guide was not engaging. He did not tell us anything about the food, architecture, or area. Such a let down!
Response from the operator: We are sorry that Kelly and Ken did not enjoy their experience, but we believe their two-star review does not accurately reflect the circumstances of this tour. The Confidential Mexico City experience is built around a planned progression of food and drink stops. On this occasion, however, the group chose not to participate in several of the planned experiences, including tequila, mezcal, and additional multiple food tastings. During the tour, different members of the group expressed different preferences, with some wanting drinks while others wanted food, and the group became increasingly tired from walking. Our guide also made adjustments to the pace and route because one member of the group had significant visual impairment. As a result, the experience ultimately became substantially different from the itinerary that had been planned. The group also chose to leave before the tour was completed. The review states that the guide had “no clue” and that the group simply “roamed around aimlessly.” We strongly disagree with that characterization. Our guide was adapting the experience in real time to the requests and limitations being expressed by the group. The decision to leave the speakeasy, for example, was made because the group did not want to wait for a table. Our tours are not designed to be rigid, scripted walks from one predetermined tasting to another. They are intentionally small, personal experiences in which the guide can adapt to the guests. In this case, however, the number of changes requested by the group meant that several of the experiences that make up Confidential Mexico City could not take place as originally planned. We were also surprised by the request for a 50% refund, given that the group received an experience and that many of the planned elements were declined or changed during the tour. We do not believe a 50% refund is justified. Nevertheless, we take guest satisfaction seriously and want to resolve the matter constructively. As a goodwill gesture, we have offered the guests a €200 credit toward another Chef Tours experience. This is being offered without admitting that the tour was improperly delivered and reflects our desire to allow them to experience one of our tours under circumstances where the planned itinerary can actually be enjoyed. We respectfully believe that the two-star rating fails to provide Viator customers with the full context of what occurred. The tour was not simply an unsuccessful execution of the advertised experience. It was an experience that was substantially altered during the evening in response to the group's own preferences, requests and limitations.

This experience was about much more than just eating. We explored hidden corners of the city and learned stories behind the food and traditions. Each tasting was carefully chosen and delicious. The relaxed pace allowed us to enjoy every moment without feeling rushed. It was a memorable and enriching way to spend an evening in Mexico City.

We had a wonderful evening filled with great food, drinks, and interesting stories. The guide was friendly and made everyone feel comfortable. We tasted a variety of dishes that showed different sides of Mexican cuisine. Everything was well organized, and the pacing was just right. It felt like discovering the city through food with someone who truly loves and understands it.
