About this experience
We visit the famous Meteora monasteries from Athens. A great long trip and a long day but worth the visit! Meteora ("suspended in the air") was the hiding spot for the monks from the Romans. We explore two (or 3) amazing monasteries depending on your fitness and timing. We drive around the Meteora maze finding different spots to take photos and enjoy the amazing views. Then, you head for a great (included) lunch & drinks under the guidance of your tour leader. No fixed menu! Authentic Greek food, location, and people; away from the tourist traps. On the way back to Athens, we also stop to stretch at the battlefield of Thermopylae and the famous 300 of King Leonidas of Sparta. A totally private tour! No strangers in the same car, so totally flexible to your needs! It's a long long day starting from 7:30 am to be back at your hotel around 8:00 pm or even later. Any other way to visit Meteora, such as train or bus will simply mean a lot more traveling time and less amazing Meteora!

We shall be visiting two (or three) of the monasteries that are open on a specific day. The gigantic rocks of Meteora dominate imposingly over Kalampaka town. This masterpiece of nature reveals all its glory for centuries as a unique geological phenomenon in beauty and an important monument of Orthodoxy.

In 1350 a daring ascetic named Varlaam ascended to the rock. The monastery was named after him. He built three churches, a small cell and a water tank. After his death the rock remained abandoned for about 200 years until 1517 when the two priest-monks Theophanes and Nektarios Apsarades started to construct the first buildings from the beginning.

Exceptional Day Trip to Meteora
We booked with Eudaimonia Private Tours for a Meteora Day Trip from Athens. Nikos was our guide and driver. He was a warm, friendly and wonderful guide. His knowledge was exemplary. He even had an information booklet on the area and monasteries for us to take home. Driving around the mountain roads was hectic but Nikos handled them like a seasoned professional. We stopped at a local tavern in Kalabaka for lunch to try Greek specialties. Nikos ordered for us keeping in mind likes and dislikes and all dishes were delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend Nikos or this company for any private tour. When we're back in the area, we'll be sure to book with them again.
Response from the operator: We are very pleased that you have enjoyed exploring with Nikos. Thank you for choosing our agency to do this day trip to the famous monasteries!

Phenomenal. Dreamy. Do it.
Phenomenal experience with breathtaking views as well as historical, religious, cultural and architectural inspirations. We concluded the tour with a delicious local Greek meal chosen by our guide, which just made the overall experience dreamy. Panayiotis, our guide, was informative, professional, helpful, hospitable and knowledgeable while also being personable, engaging and fun. I highly recommend this private tour and will definitely choose Eudaimonia on our next Greek adventure!
Response from the operator: Wendy & Alan! Thank you very much for appreciating Panayiotis' efforts to engage with you and provide the best Greece and our agency has to offer. A great review covering everything in a couple of sentences! THANK YOU!

Meteroa Trip
The van/car was roomy and clean, on time, and convenient, and Nikos and the team were great to deal with and great company on the long trip to Meteora. Great family value beats the basic train/bus experience to visit this site. Lots of time and flexibility in the daily schedule which felt we weren't rushed, and enjoyed the detailed knowledge of the sites. Enjoyed a lovely lunch with Nikos who provided some great tips for the journey which we took away with us. Recommend their services made for an incredible trip and we would use them again in the future.
Response from the operator: We are extremely happy to know that you and all your family enjoyed our tour. It is very much appreciated that you recognized the VFM of our tour compared to the (definitely) cheaper train version of the Meteora day tour. A long ride worth the travel if you plan it well! THANK YOU!

Superb sea trip
Super friendly staff Easy to find the meeting point on the port. We have turtles and other beautifully colored fish What to do
Response from the operator: Please check your review again! Are we the agency that did this tour for you? Also, the information you mentioned is irrelevant. A tour to Meteora does not include ... water, turtles, etc!!! You definitely have the wrong agency and/or you are talking about the wrong tour!

Fantastic service that made for an incredible trip.
Not only was the car clean, on time, and convenient, but our guide was exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and sites. He provided great advice during our tour and for the rest of our trip. We can't recommend highly enough. Fantastic service that made for an incredible trip. We would absolutely have them plan a trip in the future.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much, Shannon. This is a great review which is highly appreciated when coming from a very nice respectful, polite, and considerate couple. We are extremely happy that you appreciated our guides' efforts to offer you the best services possible. We would definitely love to see you again.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included cost?
+
Prices start at $172 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 12-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Meteora Monasteries Fully Private Day Tour with Great Lunch-Drinks Included start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
