About this experience

Experience Mexican food like never before with a market tour and cooking class! Learn about the ancient and colonial roots of the dishes you love, prepare them from scratch and feast like an emperor! This is one of the most complete culinary experiences we've seen in Mexico City. Many places offer either market tours, classes or tastings, and they teach you how to make a single dish or a couple of related dishes. With us, you get the best of all worlds, as first, your guide will give you a comprehensive overview of the history of Mexican cuisine, then, you'll prepare an entire menu that consists of multiple courses and sides, and finally, you'll learn about and taste lots of local drinks. Not only does this represent great value for money, it also makes for an experience that's the highlight of many of our guests' time in Mexico! We can happily plan for most dietary requirements, but unfortunately strict kosher is not possible at this time.

Amazing food and tour

This experience was amazing from beginning to end! My advice would be to do this tour and cooking class towards the beginning of your time in Mexico City to ground you in the culinary history of this beautiful city.

Mexico City memory must-do cooking class

Fantastic from 1st look to taste. He was friendly, super knowledgeable, and executed the cooking class flawlessly. It was a lot of fun, super immersive and probably the best meal we had on the trip. totally worth it! He even surprised us with a surprise dessert and we also enjoyed local drinks as we cooked. Fabulous

Amazing experience, we learned many things that will be taking home to our own kitchen!

Jim gave us a wonderful experience today. The market tour was very interesting and he had a lot of information on the history of food evolution. We had so much fun making the tamales, homemade tortillas and the fantastic Monet with chicken, apple, and pineapple. We definitely learned things that will be taking home to our own kitchen. Couldn’t give it a higher mark! And the cider and beers were interesting to taste as well. Definitely booked this when you’re in town.

Market, mole, and tamales!

This was a wonderful class! Jim includes the history and origins of the ingredients of Mexican cuisine and makes the market tour interactive and different than any other class! The tamales were delicious and we learned a new method for keeping the masa moist and flavorful. The first time we had mole verde and I’ll be making it at home! The atmosphere was welcoming and beautifully decorated with local art and even the plates and bowls we used added to the experience. If you’re in Mexico City, Jim’s class is worth it!

Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.

How much does Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast cost?

+

Prices start at $1980 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.

Is Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 30 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast?

+

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Medellín Market Tour, Cooking Class and 3-course Mexican Feast start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

+

On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mexico City?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mexico City?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
