Mauritius National Botanical Garden. The botanical garden is home to an incredible variety of tropical plants, many of them indigenous. The Botanical Garden is one of the most visited sights in Mauritius. It was first opened as a private garden by the French governor of Mauritius nearly 300 years ago. The botanical garden stretches over endless acres of land and it can take you more than a week to cover the whole garden. The Botanical Garden is populated with more than 650 varieties of plants among which are the famous Baobabs, the palmier bouteille, the ineluctable giant water lilies, dozens of medicinal plants, 85 different varieties of palms, a big spice garden and many more. As part of the tour, you will get to explore the Botanical garden and have a taste of their beauty.

Fort Adelaide (also known as La Citadelle) was built in a very strategic location on higher lands of Port Louis at 240 feet above sea level. The British built this fortress in fear of a civil war from the remaining French settlers on the island and also for the purpose of guarding the harbor against enemy attacks. Cap Malheureux
About the Red Church at Cap Malheureux One of the most renowned churches in Mauritius is the Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel, a Roman Catholic Church famous for its vivid red roof against the bright turquoise sea and azure sky. Located ten minutes from Grand Bay is the small fishing village of Cap Malheureux. It translates to “Unfortunate/Unhappy Cape”, due to the numerous ships, which floundered there in the past. The Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Church is famous for its lovely red roof, which attracts many curious passers-by and offers a picturesque background for worthy snapshots. This simple chapel was founded in 1938 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is situated ideally at the very northern point of Mauritius, offering breathtaking views of the five northern islets, including Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin). This Roman Catholic Church draws in a lot of visitors as well as worshippers. On Sunday mornings, many tourists can be found joining the mass. The church, as well as the beach behind the church is a popular spot for newlyweds to have their pictures taken- so it is not uncommon to run into couples here. The beach behind allows you to soak up the sun and enjoy the view, while the kids can play in the white sand and discover aquatic life in the rock pools. Fishermen are also frequently docking, with a fresh catch.

High recommended
I enjoyed the tour with Shrish, who was an excellent and informative guide. He was an excellent driver and also had a lot of information. He is very patient, very knowledgeable and is flexible. For example, I asked him about visiting Aparvasi Ghat which was not in the list of places to visit. He was happy to tweak it. Instead of visiting a market we visited the ghat which I wanted. I learned so much from him about the Mauritian culture, about unity in diversity, history, important people who made a difference in Mauritian history, the education system and the country in general. The tour guide also stood out for me as he gave advice to me on the South tours and health precautions I should take. I would give him lots of bonus points for that. I tried other tours from other companies and I can safely say that Shrish stood out for me. My other guide from a different company in Mauritius was the opposite and took any health risks lightly and gave me very wrong advice. This other company guide always tricked me to commercial places despite my insistence that I hate shopping. I understand that the commission is important for their livelihoods but I felt very annoyed with that company. Based on my experience of 4 trips in the country, I recommend Shrish highly. I was too tired and dozed off on the way while he was amazing! I felt annoyed as I missed an opportunity to learn from him more. My late night work and hectic schedule before arriving in Mauritius caught me (lol).

Interesting day
Our driver and guide, Nishal, was excellent. He was a careful driver and planned our itinerary thoughtfully around the changeable weather. He gave us lots of information about Mauritius. We particularly enjoyed L’Aventure du Sucre and the Botanical Gardens.

A grwat overview of the northern region.
Our guide was knowledgeable about history of Mauritius. Port Louis was interesting to see and we cover back streets too. The Citadel gave great views of Port Louis and surrounding hills. Great views of north coast and enjoyed botanicial gardens.

We spent a great day with Dinesh, guide who knows everyone and everything. Wonderful discovery of central market in Port Louis and rest of the city, botanical garden, nice lunch in local resto, visit to authentic ship factory, and lot more. To recommend!

Day trip in Mauritius
Had a great day out our guide Swaraj was great went to the local markets he walked around with us very knowledgeable guy told us a lot of the history on Mauritius, botanic Gardens was good ,rum tastings, car was excellent nice and clean good day out would highly recommend Have done a few tours with viator in many countries never had a problem great company, good communication definitely will use them again Steve and Annette
