About this experience

On this day excursion from Delhi, visit Vrindavan and Mathura, the land of the Hindu God Krishna. Mathura is one of the seven most holy places for Hindus in India. Vrindavan is the site where Krishna played and danced with the maidens of the town. Cover both these holy towns on the same day. On the way back to Delhi, stop at the beautiful Akshardham Temple that has some of the most delicate carvings to be found in a modern day temple. Highlights • Bankey Bihari and Prem Mandir Temples in Vrindavan • Birthplace of God Krishna in Mathura • 6 feet idols of Krishna and Radha in the Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple • Akshardham Temple, the world’s largest Hindu temple complex

  1. Shri Banke Bihari Temple

You will be picked up from your hotel in Delhi for the two and half hour drive to Vrindavan that is situated around 100 miles from Delhi. Your local guide will meet you in Vrindavan and show you around the town where Krishna spent his childhood. There are over 5 000 temples in Vrindavan. On this tour visit the two most famous temples - the Bankey Bihari Temple and Prem Mandir Temple. The beautiful idols of Krishna and his divine love Radha along with other maidens are a sight to behold. The Bankey Bihari temple is unlike other Hindu temples as it does not have any bells. It is believed that bells disturb the sleep of Krishna, who is worshipped here in his child incarnation.

The walls of this ancient style stone temple are covered with intricately carved sculptures of flora, fauna, dancers, musicians and Hindu deities. The temple was constructed on the tenets of traditional Hindu architecture and does not have any ferrous metal. There are over nine domes, 230 intricately carved pillars, 148 life sized elephants and over 20 000 idols in the temple. After the tour of Akshardham Temple, you will be dropped back at your hotel.

How many days do you need in New Delhi?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
