A flight over the city of stones

Wonderful experience! It was gifted to me a year ago, we left from Rome this morning and we flew! It was incredible. Very early wake-up call, detailed briefing, perfect flight. The pilot was able to explain everything to us and the view from above is breathtaking! Thanks to the entire staff, professional, kind, and very helpful! I would recommend it

    Poorly Organized by Purveyor

Poorly organized with a lot of time spent sitting around waiting when preparations could have been done beforehand. spent more time watching him set up the ballon and break down the ballon than we spent in the ballon. While we were up it was beautiful but out of 3.5 hours we were only flying for about 30 minutes. Ended up landing in a wheat field. They need to get their act together and have the balloon inflated when people arrive and a separate team to return us to our car so we don’t have to stand and watch them dig the basket out of a field. I understand we don’t have any control over the wind but I don’t think they had enough gas or propane to keep us afloat.

Response from the operator: Dear Suzanne, Thank you for sharing your feedback. Every review is an opportunity for us to improve and to clarify important aspects of our service. As clearly stated on our website and in the pre-flight information, the full hot air balloon experience lasts approximately 3 hours, including preparation, flight, landing, return, and breakfast. The actual flight time is usually around 60 minutes; in your case, it lasted about 50 minutes, which is perfectly in line with what we communicate to our guests. Regarding the waiting times, we’re sorry to hear they felt excessive. At this time of year, the fields used for takeoff and landing are often cultivated with wheat, and we take extra care not to damage the crops. This means that some logistical operations, such as retrieving the balloon or transporting passengers back, can take longer than usual. However, this is part of our commitment to respecting the land and those who work it. Please rest assured that your flight was conducted in full safety, with enough fuel on board for a flight significantly longer than the one performed, in accordance with aeronautical regulations. We sincerely hope to welcome you on board again in the future for an even smoother, more enjoyable experience. Warm regards, The Mongolfiere al Sud Italia Team

Matera balloon flight for small groups: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Matera.

How much does Matera balloon flight for small groups cost?

    +

Prices start at $320 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Matera usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Matera balloon flight for small groups take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Matera is not rushed.

Is Matera balloon flight for small groups worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 63 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Matera, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Matera balloon flight for small groups?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Matera balloon flight for small groups suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Matera balloon flight for small groups?

    +

Around 22 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Matera can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Matera and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Matera balloon flight for small groups start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Matera within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Matera?

    +

On Outty we rank every Matera experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Discover Matera, the ancient city - English tour, Tour in the Sassi of Matera with Casa Grotta and Rock Church, Matera's Sassi Walking Tour - PREMIUM GUIDES. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Matera?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Matera?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

    +

Included: Breakfast. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
