    Matera/Altamura

Interesting excursion Matera and Altamura are two great cities to visit but the wording of the tour specified a day or we left at 9am and returned at 3pm for me it's not been a day but half a day knowing that there's a little more than an hour by car and an hour back and at the price of 198 euros it's expensive an hour fortunately our guide was exceptional, she has a lot of culture, she spoke in two languages at the same time which is not easy and she is very smiling and very caring I think we should add a visit to a beautiful rock church in the other sassi or at least leave a long free time so that we can visit alone and also do a little shopping or eat a little something that couldn't be done

Cordiali saluti,

    Don't Miss Altamura and Matera

We had a delightful day in Matera and Altamura on what turned out to be a private tour. Altamura was a surprise for us, not a town we knew anything about. The church was beautiful and the bakery was very interesting. We were also able to see pasta being made on the street. The guided tour of Matera was something we were looking forward to and we were not disappointed.

Response from the operator: Dear Karen, thank you so much for your kind words! We’re truly happy to hear that you had a delightful day exploring Matera and Altamura with us. Altamura is indeed a hidden gem, and it’s wonderful that you enjoyed discovering its charm — from the stunning cathedral to the fascinating bakery and even witnessing traditional pasta-making in the streets. Those little surprises often become the most memorable moments! We’re also glad that Matera met your expectations. It’s a truly unique and special place, and it means a lot to know that the guided tour lived up to what you were looking forward to. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon for more unforgettable experiences in our region. Warm regards,

Don’t miss out on this trip!

My husband, adult daughter and I had a wonderful day touring Altamura and Matera. It turned out to be a private tour for the three of us. We had delicious focaccia in Altamura at one of the bakeries in old town. The cathedral is beautiful, especially the front entrance and all the stories it tells. Matera was as beautiful as all the pictures I’ve seen. Our tour guide, (her first name escapes me - last name Pavia) was so informative. Her knowledge of the history of these two beautiful towns was so interesting. We had a great day!

Response from the operator: Dear Pamela, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you, your husband, and your daughter had such a memorable day exploring Altamura and Matera with us — and that it turned out to be a private tour just for your family made it even more special. Altamura's old town, with its delicious focaccia and the stunning cathedral façade full of stories, is always a treat to discover. And we’re so glad that Matera lived up to the beauty you've seen in pictures — it's a place that never fails to impress. We will certainly pass along your kind words to our guide Ms. Pavia. She’ll be thrilled to know her historical insights and storytelling made the day so enjoyable for you. Thank you again for choosing us. We hope to welcome you back in the future for more beautiful experiences in our region. Warm regards,

Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bari.

How much does Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari cost?

    +

Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bari usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bari is not rushed.

Is Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bari, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bari can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bari and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Matera and Altamura Small Group Guided Tour from Bari start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bari within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bari?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bari experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bari’s Ultimate Street Food Tour - Small Group by Do Eat Better, Boat Tour of the Polignano a Mare Coast with Aperitif, Polignano a Mare: Boat Tour of the Caves - Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bari?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bari?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
