About this experience
Find out what makes Melbourne tick on this GPS-guided walking tour through its vibrant CBD. I'm Mitch, a Melbourne local, and I'll be your host for this lovely little audio jaunt from Birrarung Marr riverside park to Hamer Hall. After enduring the world’s longest lockdown, the city is back and better than ever and I can’t wait to share it with you as we take in some of its lesser-known corners including Federation Square and the Block Arcade. Along the way, I'll introduce you to a few people who’ll share some interesting facts about the city and how it came to be. You’ll hear from Steve, a Gunai Kurnai man whose ancestors are the traditional owners of Naarm. (That’s Melbourne’s traditional Aboriginal name.) Jessica Paige, a street busker, will also share one of her beautiful songs with you. By the end of this tour, you’ll be able to explore the city on your own just like any other Melbournite!

DO NOT BOOK
do not book this. I went for the tour and never received the audio or the locations. after leaving a review the company called me four times at midnight yelling at me, threatening me and calling me stupid to delete my review otherwise there will be bigger problems. not only is this unprofessional, but it is not safe and I now need to change my card information. Please be careful with this company.
Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share this. I'm sorry you didn't receive the audio and locations for your tour — that shouldn't have happened, and I'd like to help put it right. Please email support@voicemap.me with your booking details so we can look into it and arrange a refund. I do want to raise one thing, though: we have no record of anyone from VoiceMap contacting you, and we would never call a customer to pressure them about a review — that's simply not something we do. Given what you've described — the repeated late-night calls, the threats — this sounds like it may involve a different company, possibly one with a similar name or a separate listing for a similar tour. It may be worth checking your booking confirmation to see which company you actually travelled with. Alicia

A self-guided audio tour is very challenging. I don't recommend it
The tour was challenging to negotiate. We had a good internet connection, but we found it difficult to reach the locations according to the self-guided audio tour. We gave up halfway. Also the information provided about the locations was not interesting.
Response from the operator: Hi there, Thank you for your feedback on our Marvellous Melbourne self-guided audio tour. I'm sorry to hear you found it challenging to navigate and ultimately gave up halfway. Our app includes several navigation tools designed specifically to address the challenges of city walking tours. You can always pause the tour to resituate yourself on the map, which shows the route and all the stops along the way, as well as your location. If you encounter difficulties on future tours, our support team is available via the 'Help" section in the app. Most navigation issues can be quickly resolved with simple troubleshooting steps while you're on location. Should you wish to discuss a partial refund, please email us at support@voicemap.me with your booking details. Thanks, Helene

Go during business hours.
During the evening it is difficult because a couple of the walk thru areas are closed. Had to find our way around.

Excellent and afordable tour
This was an excellent and affordable way to be a tourist in Melbourne. I really enjoyed the interviews with different locals and it was easy to follow navigation wise. A great introduction to some interesting places and history. Would be great to have more tours from this producer.

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Melbourne.
How much does Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $10 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Melbourne usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Melbourne is not rushed.
Is Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 27 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Melbourne, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Melbourne can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Melbourne and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Marvellous Melbourne: A Self-Guided Audio Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Melbourne within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Melbourne?
+
On Outty we rank every Melbourne experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Melbourne: Yarra Valley Wine, Gin, Whisky and Chocolate Tour, Yarra Valley Wine Tour w Exclusive Gin, Cider & Chocolate Tasting, Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne - Choc, Gin & Good Times. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Melbourne?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Melbourne?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
