    1. Central Market Hall

This is a complete culinary experience or you can call it a two-in-one event. In which we combine a 'visit to the local food market' and a Hungarian cooking course. We start on the Central Market Hall, which is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest. During the tour we visit the building and you can learn about local ingredients, seasonal vegetables and fruits, typical Hungarian products, shopping habits and the history of the building. We buy some ingredients and you can taste these in our kitchen (please, arrive a little hungry!) Of course, you can also buy a few packages red paprika powder as a souvenir - we help you in this. After the market tour, we go to our kitchen studio by taxi. Meeting-point: next to the main gate (you can find a photo in the gallery). Schedule: 1. meeting next to the mail gate 2. visit the Central Market Hall 3. buying and walking

      60 minutes here

    2. After the tour we go to my kitchen (by taxi) and we cook together. We make a 3-course menu with the most famous Hungarian dishes. During the cooking you can taste the local ingredients which were showed on the Market. At the end of the event you can enjoy the result of your efforts: rich meal together. On my cooking class the participants work together as a team and we make the same menu. There are 5 different menu options. If you book the event the first, you can choose the menu.

Hungarian Market and Cooking with Flavors of Budapest

We visited Budapest as part of our Viking Danube River Tour. We were looking for something unique to do on our last day in Budapest. The Flavors of Budapest Market Tour with Hungarian Cooking Class was the answer. We were greeted by Marti at the Great Market Hall for an informative tour of this historical market and its local flavors. Marti shared her knowledge and made it a great experience for our group. After the tour, she provided transportation to her cozy cooking studio where we spent the afternoon learning to make stuffed cabbage, potato soup and apple strudel. While cooking Marti provided us with tastings of items we learned about at the market. The day with Marti was awesome! She made it fun and she was very patient with us, her students. She shared many stories about her life and experiences. She went out of her way to include making a separate dessert to accommodate one of our gluten free friends. After the class she forwarded all of the recipes so our group could make the dishes for years to come. If you are looking for a memorable experience in Budapest, look no further. Flavors of Budapest Is a great option! Enjoy.

Response from the operator: Dear Beth, Thank you so much for the amazing and detailed review and your kind words. Thank you for sharing your experience with others, I really appreciate it. It was a perfect event with you. I am really glad that you have enjoyed the class and the market tour and hope that you will have just as much fun preparing the dishes at home! I wish all you all the best!

    Great time in Budapest!!

What a wonderful way to see and get an insight into the Hungarian People. Marti was a fantastic host. We had 3 couples in our party and had plenty of room and plenty of opportunities to cook and make desserts. I am Gluten Free and Marti had tailored all dishes so I could eat them. I got to make my own dessert! The tour of the market place was extremely interesting and gives lots of insight into the country. We went back to market place after the tour to do more shopping. If you want a fun and hands on experience into the food of Hungary this was excellent!

Response from the operator: Dear Leslie, Thank you so much for coming and also for taking the time to leave such an amazing and detailed review! I am glad that you had such an amazing experience with me and hope I was able to really give you an insight into my country and gastronomy.

    Best part of Budapest

This was the highlight of our trip to Budapest! Marti is so knowledgeable about the ingredients to her recipes. She cares very deeply for her craft and talent of cooking. This wasn't just a cooking class, this was a history lesson, life lesson, and experience into Hungarian life. We loved her stories about cooking as a child and her family recipes. Just a wonderful way to get out of the being a tourist and into a world of flavors and tastes.

Response from the operator: Dear Dianne, Thanks you so mush for your kind words and review! It makes me really happy and I truly appreciate it! Such words are worth working for :)

    Marti is the best!

Marti is one of the nicest, most giving persons I have ever met! Her passion for her country's cuisine and her natural talent for teaching make this experience one of the top things to do in Budapest!

Response from the operator: Dear Dale, Thanks a lot for your kind words and for taking the time to leave me such a nice review. It makes me really happy.

If you enjoy experiences with great food on your travels, don't miss this one!

I don't write many reviews on Tripadvisor, except in cases where the service is way beyond expectations. This was one of our best experiences in Budapest and well worth the time to give tripadvisor free content for a shout out to Marti at Cooking Hungary. We did the 5.5 hour market tour with cooking and were not disappointed in any way. My wife and I were joined by 3 others and had a wonderful time cooking, chatting and, of course, eating! If you have limited time in Hungary, this is one thing to try to fit in to your trip and will be far more enjoyable than any dinner at a restaurant.

Response from the operator: Dear Darren, Thank you so much for coming and thank you for your detailed review and kind words. I am really glad that you have enjoyed the class and the market tour and hope that you will have just as much fun preparing the dishes at home! I wish you and your family the best!

Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Budapest.

How much does Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef cost?

    +

Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Budapest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Budapest is not rushed.

Is Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Budapest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Budapest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Budapest and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Market Tour & Hungarian Cooking Class by a Professional Chef start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Budapest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Budapest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Budapest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Budapest City Landmarks Walking Tour in 2 Hours, Countryside Half-day Gastro-Wine Tour from Budapest Meal & pickup, Budapest free walking tour: Parliament and Shoes Memorial. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Budapest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Budapest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
