Delightful guide and wonderful experience
Chief "The Man" was delightful and a wonderful guide. His love and passion for the history of the island, the people, the ecosysytem....is truly inspiring and contagious!! Manteo is a beautiful town and one we want to explore more. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Response from the operator: You are very kind! It is my privilege to share our special history with guests from all over the world. Our island is the only place in America where one can visit and be able to experience so many firsts in history from over 450 years. That is not just a historical coincidence but it makes us truly the “Land of Beginnings” for America. The true discovery for world travelers is finding out what Governor John White discovered in 1585. He had just returned from “The goodliest land under cope of heaven”. That is the Outer Banks! Safe travels. Chief D

Manteo Walking Tour
Loved the tour. The Chief was great as a guide and an excellent storyteller.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much! We are privileged to host the original history tour on The Outer Banks. When I began the tour back in 2004, we had no idea that so many people would have enjoyed Manteo so much. The Land of Beginnings will always be a special place in our American story. We are so glad that you chose to spend your special vacation with us. You are welcomed home anytime. Chief D

Awesome
Great experience. Chief was one of the most historically knowledgeable people I have ever listened to. Had a lot of information to share and really made you appreciate what we have in this country, and more specifically OBX and Manteo. Everything about this tour was great!
Response from the operator: You are so kind to say such nice things about me. But truly the history here on the Outer Banks speaks for itself. All one has to do is just listen to the wind over the dunes and hear the echo of our unique American heritage. I am privileged to be able to share our story with so many guests from all over the world. There are a few other tours in the area chasing the economic boom, but we really try to share the true nuanced depth of our history with passion and storytelling to our guests. We are very glad that you have visited with us. Please come home to “The Land of Beginnings” soon! Chief D

A must-do tour when you visit the Outer Banks
This tour was a highlight of our trip to the Outer Banks. Greg, the tour guide, is very engaging and informative. We learned about both the local history and its local flavor. Greg clearly knows Manteo and its history. His passion for his community shines through and becomes infectious. I highly recommend taking this tour.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your comments.

Why this scores 84
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Manteo Historic Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Outer Banks.
How much does Manteo Historic Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $31 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Outer Banks usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Manteo Historic Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Outer Banks is not rushed.
Is Manteo Historic Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 267 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Outer Banks, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Manteo Historic Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Manteo Historic Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Manteo Historic Walking Tour?
+
Around 93 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Outer Banks can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Outer Banks and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Manteo Historic Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Outer Banks within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Outer Banks?
+
The Outer Banks sells wild horse 4x4 tours in Corolla, lighthouse visits, kiteboarding and hang gliding at Jockey's Ridge, dolphin cruises and shipwreck dives. On Outty we rank every Outer Banks experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 2-hour Outer Banks Wild Horse Tour by 4WD Truck, Alligator River Kayak Adventure, Kitty Hawk Woods Kayak Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Outer Banks?
+
May to June and September to October, avoiding hurricane peak. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Outer Banks?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
