About this experience
Why Choose This Experience? This isn't just a tasting or a one-time workshop—it's a complete introduction to authentic makgeolli brewing at a working brewery. Unlike many classes, you'll learn the traditional techniques, ingredients, and fermentation process used to brew real Korean rice wine. Every step is designed to give you practical skills you can continue using at home. As the author of the first comprehensive English guide to home brewing Korean rice wine and founder of Baekusaeng Brewery, I've helped thousands of students from around the world discover the art of makgeolli. Whether you're a complete beginner or a fermentation enthusiast, you'll leave with the knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to keep brewing long after your trip to Korea.

Make your own Craft Makgeolli class in Seoul
This is very fun. Great samples and very interesting to learn about the history of this drink. Most fun. You make it there and the bring it home with you too age. Yes, we did fly back to the USA with it. After all, it is still rice and water at that point. We ver given a transport bag. However, we went to DAISO and got bubble wrap and tape to transport. Also used the hotel plastic laundry bags. All arrived safely! Just waiting for our taste test in a few days! This really is a must to do.

If you enjoy rice wine then this is the class for you!
Wonderful experience learning about the art of rice wine making. Joe was an incredible instructor who gave us hands on opportunity in the making of this age old product. We even made a batch to take home with us. Got to taste a wonderful flight of different blends as well. I really enjoyed the class!

We were hosted in a...
We were hosted in a quaint and cozy little shop, in an intimate space. Joe was a pleasant and knowledgeable host who guided us and answered all of our questions. And of course, the makgeolli was amazing! And not to mention, when we got lost looking for his shop, he was patient enough to help us figure out how to find him.

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seoul.
How much does Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli) cost?
+
Prices start at $74 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seoul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli) take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seoul is not rushed.
Is Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 99 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seoul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli)?
+
Around 35 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seoul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seoul and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Make Traditional Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seoul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Seoul?
+
On Outty we rank every Seoul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include DMZ Tour: Defector Q&A, Tunnel & Suspension Bridge /Hotel pick up, Best DMZ Tour Seoul: Defector Q&A, 3rd Tunnel & Suspension Bridge, 2026 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best: DMZ Tour from Seoul. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Seoul?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Seoul?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
