    About this experience

"Learn how to make authentic, vegan-friendly Japanese dashi (broth) with us." Our private, one-group-only format makes the class a favorite for birthdays, anniversaries, and honeymoons. Your group only — no strangers, no shared sessions. This is our home in Arashiyama, Kyoto. When you are here, it is yours for the day. We cook together, eat together, and talk — about food, about Japan, about whatever comes up. Your hosts are Satoru, a professional chef with over 30 years of experience, and Akiko, a fluent English speaker. Guests have come to us from more than 20 countries. Some are experienced cooks. Some have never held a Japanese knife. Some are vegan and have spent their entire trip anxious about what is in their food. We have learned to read the room. And we genuinely enjoy it. One group. Maximum 4 guests. Every time.

    Our favourite experience

Akiko and Satoru are the most lovely persons. We had so much fun and learned a lot about the japanese way of cooking ramen and gyoza. We can't wait to try the recipes at home, the food was so tasty. It was a very special experience for us that we surely won't forget!

    Teaching the Tastiness

We had an amazing time learning how to cook japanese dishes in a vegan way. We were invited into our tour guide's home and made two versions of ramen as well as gyoza - so do come hungry! The food was delicious and we learned a lot. It was also nice to in general chat with the hosts to get some tips from locals (e.g. about knives, cookwear etc.). To remember everything we learned we got prints of the recipes. Learning something for your home cooking is the best possible souvenir you could bring home, so we wholeheartedly recommend this authentic feeling experience.

How to get your kids to eat veggies?

This was one of the most memorable experiences of our Japan trip, a gift that keeps giving, with every Japanese meal I prepare at home. Perfectly organised workshop, in a private setting with the kindest of hosts. We learned a lot, had fun on a rainy afternoon in Kyoto, and enjoyed the best ramen ever! The experience is suitable for kids and non-vegans, I warmly recommend it.

Authentic and Welcoming - A highlight!

This was the highlight of my most recent trip to Kyoto, as it was such a unique experience. Welcomed into the home of a Tempura chef and his wife Satoru for a one on one cooking experience was just brilliant! Their hospitality was first class. Step by step instructions with hands on experience we made (from scratch), a variety of delicious tempura vegetables (and a bonus treat of tempura Brie!), Miso soup and Onigiri. Every mouthful was just so tasty and fresh. Thank you so much to this wonderful couple for opening their home and sharing their knowledge on some traditional Japanese cooking.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It was a pleasure for us to share our passion for cooking .And connecting with you was a true highlight for us.

Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.

How much does Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto cost?

    +

Prices start at $10000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.

Is Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Make Japanese Vegan Dashi Ramen & Gyoza in Kyoto start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
