What we booked vs. what we got
The trip we booked was not the trip we got! The trip as advertised; Sign of the Takahe Mona Vale Gardens Cathedral Square Riverside Market Toby Hill Farm What we got? A long drive in a very poor van with no leg room straight out to Arakawa so that 6 people could get out and catch their Black Cat Excursion?? We were left to wander around for 45 minutes before continuing on to Coombs farm for the sheep demonstration and tea. This was the only good part of the tour. The setting was idyllic and the farmer’s wife made us a lively afternoon tea in her garden. I understand they run a B&B as well and would highly recommend it. I will never book with Leisure Tours again.

The tour operator changed this tour and didn’t tell us. We did not get what we signed up for. They apparently combined our tour with a jet boating tour and they changed the sheep farm we visited to accommodate the jet boating people. The result was we missed all sightseeing in Christchurch. The van was very old and very uncomfortable. Everyone complained that their knees hurt, and there was no legroom. The tour operator seemed unsure of what he was supposed to do. We drove well over an hour and a half to a town on the water so the jet boating people could get off Then he took us to a sheep farm COMBS farm, which was lovely. He did not tell us how long we would be there. We did get a demonstration of the dog, bringing the sheep down the hill into a paddock and sheep sharing demo. The farmer explained everything and we got to touch the animals which was wonderful. Their place is idyllic. His wife was so sweet. She made tea and coffee and scones and biscuits for us and we sat outside in just the most peaceful place you’ve ever seen, it was stunningly beautiful there. They were very gracious. They also run a B&B (Combs Farm) so if you’re ever in the area and want to stay there, I would recommend it. Then back in the awful van to go collect the boating people and an hour on our own in a town we didn’t plan to visit. Cute but nothing to do except walk around aimlessly to kill time. Back in the awful van more than an hour back to Christchurch where the driver pointed things out as we whizzed by them. The tour description listed several stops in Christchurch and we didn’t get any of them because of the time wasted in unknown town. I’d be happier if they had told us our tour was changed and gave us the opportunity to cancel but there was no communication about the change. Id wish for a refund but that wouldn’t compensate for completely missing Christchurch. It took 3 days for my knee to stop hurting from the awful old van. Here is what we DID NOT get (from tour description) Stop At: Sign of the Takahe, 200 Hackthorne Road, Cashmere, Christchurch 8022, New Zealand Best spot to admire some spectacular views over the City, Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps. Duration: 30 minutes Stop At: Mona Vale, 63 Fendalton Rd Riccarton, Christchurch 8004 New Zealand Time spent walking through Mona Vale Gardens with its picturesque Gardens, Ponds & river. Duration: 30 minutes Stop At: Cathedral Square, Christchurch New Zealand Time spent on foot exploring Cathedral Square Duration: 30 minutes Stop At: Riverside Market, 96 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand Very dissatisfied. Only good thing was Combs farm.
Response from the operator: The shore excursion being reviewed took place several weeks ago and It would appear that the reviewer is now confused between this excursion and others taken on the cruise. The tour was not combined with a jet boating tour and the vehicle they travelled in is a modern comfortable 24 seater coach. Please see the other reviews for this product which are mainly 5 star, two of them from the same day of travel as the reviewers.

ChristChurch and Sheep farm
Quite a bit of driving, the upside is experiencing the stunning scenery and hearing about New Zealand. We really enjoyed the Sheep farm visit. Seeing the working dog, sheep shearing and delightful Tea and cookies. Lovely gardens at the farm. ChristChurch was a drive by today, fine with me but not as advertised.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. As the farms are working farms they are in the country and some travel is required. Pleased you enjoyed the scenery and the farm. Unfortunately, as your cruise ship had an earlier than normal all onboard time some of the Christchurch city sights had to be shortened.

Good but could have been Great
Wonderful, fulfilling tour of countryside, sheep farm experience, and Christchurch city tour. The tour guide was a great driver but should not be assigned guiding duties. Unable to hear his diminutive voice and he was unable to exude a sense of wonder that we expect from Viator Tour Guides.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to submit your review which are valuable to us to ensure we meet and where possible exceed our customers expectations.

Super selection of sites - tour guide, at times, did not meet expectations
The length of the tour time was ideal. The drive was lovely and the selection of stops was well-planted. We highly recommend the tour. The driver/guide drove us safely and had a lot of interesting information. However, her language at times was unnecessarily coarse and she made a racial slur which was unacceptable to us.
Response from the operator: Thanks for the review and pleased you had a great and enjoyable day.

Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Christchurch.
How much does Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm cost?
+
Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Christchurch usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Christchurch is not rushed.
Is Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Christchurch, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Christchurch can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Christchurch and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Lyttelton Cruise Excursions: Christchurch Sightseeing with Sheep Farm start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Christchurch within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Christchurch?
+
On Outty we rank every Christchurch experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include TranzAlpine Train, Arthur's Pass and Castle Hill Day Trip, Lord of the Rings, Journey to Edoras Day Tour from Christchurch, Mount Cook, Lake Tekapo and Tasman Glacier Tour from Christchurch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Christchurch?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Christchurch?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
