What makes this experience stand out is its quiet, authentic charm—nothing staged, nothing rushed. You’re not herded into a tasting room; you’re welcomed into a working vineyard where traditions still guide the hands that tend the vines. The wine you taste isn’t just “good”—it’s rooted in rare Cretan varieties that Lyrarakis has fought to preserve for generations. And then there’s the picnic: not a plastic table under an umbrella, but a hand-prepared spread set right in the vineyard, where the landscape does the talking. It’s intimate, personal, and crafted the old-fashioned way—slowly, with care, and with a touch of Cretan soul that you simply won’t find elsewhere.

    Amazing time at Lyrarakis Winery!

My friend and I had so much fun at Lyrarakis! The shuttle was easy and convenient and on time, and it was pleasant ride through the Cretan countryside. The facilities of Lyrarakis were stunning and the staff we interacted with, Sophia and Daphne, were so kind and really added to the experience of our tour and tasting. All of the wine and food was fabulous. My friend and I even brought home a bottle of Za Za Zu each back to the US! Shuttle service even took us back to our stay in Heraklion- SO appreciated that we didn’t have to coordinate transit/taxi to the winery and back. 100 recommend this experience for a few hours of entertainment outside of Heraklion and as a way to see a less urban part of Crete!

Response from the operator: What a joy to read your glowing review — thank you! It sounds like you and your friend soaked up the best of Lyrarakis: stunning landscapes, generous hospitality, and of course, that charming Za Za Zu (a crowd favorite for good reason!). We're so glad Sophia and Daphne made the experience even more memorable — they're a big part of what makes that winery feel like home. And yes, not having to stress over transit makes all the difference when you just want to relax and enjoy Crete at a slower pace. We're thrilled you got to see the countryside in comfort and style. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ — may your bottles of Za Za Zu bring a little Cretan sunshine to your next toast back home!

    Nice wines and beautiful experience.

Travel was easy and friendly driver. Enjoyable vineyard tour and explanation of this vineyards process and why they grow grapes differently than in other areas of the world due to climate. This tour included (5) wine tastings ?(they called it the queen tasting). Another tour included (7) wines. The 5 wines were a selection of mixed vineyards, and the 7 were their nicer wines single source wines.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We’re glad to hear the travel was smooth and that your driver made the journey easy and pleasant — that’s always a good start to the day. The vineyard tour you described sounds like it hit the sweet spot between education and enjoyment, especially with the focus on climate and cultivation methods unique to Crete. You’re right about the wine tastings — the "Queen Tasting" includes 5 carefully selected wines that represent a range of styles and vineyards, while the extended 7-wine tasting focuses more on premium, single-estate selections. Next time, if you're up for it, the deeper dive into the full lineup is definitely worth it for wine lovers! Ευχαριστούμε και στην υγειά σας!

    Lovely wine, beautiful scenery

A good afternoon out! The wine was lovely - 2 reds, 2 whites and a sweet sparkling wine - and the winery itself is in a stunning location, which was really relaxing. The tour was also interesting and the guide was friendly and answered all the questions our group had. If you want to pick up a bottle afterwards (we got a few!), the prices are very reasonable and it's easy to find the wines you liked from the tasting. The transfer from our hotel was very prompt and easy to find, they provided details of the car and a map pin for the pick-up point, and our driver was really friendly and gave us some great info about Heraklion and other areas in Crete. The only thing we felt could be improved is that we would have liked to have had a bit more time at the winery, perhaps to have another drink and explore a bit more - it felt like we were travelling for longer than we actually spent at the vineyard. All around, we had a lovely afternoon with great service and communication, and lovely wine, just perhaps a little too quick for us. Thank you!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review – we’re truly glad to hear you had a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon, and that the wines (and our trusty driver!) left a good impression. That sweet sparkling one does have a sneaky way of making people want *just one more glass*, doesn’t it? We really appreciate your feedback about timing at the winery. You're absolutely right – when you're in such a beautiful place with good wine and good company, the clock shouldn't be in a rush. We'll take this into account and look into adjusting the pace a bit so that future guests can soak it all in at a slower, more Cretan rhythm. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ και στην υγειά σας – until next time!

Bad deal, book direct with vineyard

Great customer service however I am very grateful that this booking ended up being cancelled. We were told by the provider of this trip that the taxi would only wait 45 mins for us. Leaving no time for a tour or lunch. We went direct to the vineyard, thier transfer package was not only cheaper but it included wine tasting and lunch. We were also able to stay as long as we wanted. For such a beautiful vineyard you really don't want yo be rushed.

Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Heraklion.

How much does Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting cost?

    +

Prices start at $217 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Heraklion usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Heraklion is not rushed.

Is Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Heraklion, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting?

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Heraklion can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Heraklion and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Lyrarakis Vineyard Picnic Experience with Guided Wine Tasting start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Heraklion within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Heraklion?

    +

On Outty we rank every Heraklion experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Knossos - Zeus Cave - Old Traditional Villages-Olive Oil Factory, Knossos & Lasithi Plateau: Zeus Cave, Villages, Olive Oil Tour, Quad Safari: Off-Road Day Tour with Dinner & Transfers. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Heraklion?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Heraklion?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
