About this experience
Guided by a local sommelier, you don't just taste, you learn by doing. You'll start with the basics for reading a wine properly, then move to the heart of the workshop, which is food and wine pairing. You'll try the good pairings and the bad ones alike, so you grasp for yourself, concretely, why some combinations lift each other up while others fall flat. The workshop builds in stages, from goat versus cow to young cheese versus long-aged, then on to blue cheese, where you're fully on your own to think it through and call it. Along the way you'll explore France's terroirs, with the grape varieties, soils and microclimates all explained without the jargon. Standing, sociable and outdoors whenever the weather allows, the whole thing unfolds in a genuine Croix-Rousse wine cellar. A deep dive into gastronomic Lyon without ever leaving the neighbourhood.

Our Tour/Cellar Guide, Louis Favier, was truly remarkable.
Outstanding tour! Our "Cellar Guide" (Louis Favier) was truly professional and knowledgeable...making our experience quite memorable! His breadth of experience, coupled with his extensive knowledge of wine viticulture and viniculture was extraordinary. Despite our group's small size and having relatively little appreciation for French wines, Mr. Favier quickly established a friendly rapport that enhanced our learning experience during our one-and-a-half-hour visit. Additionally, the wine/cheese tasting was given in a small boutique wine shop/room that provided a unique wine tasting atmosphere. The admission fee was very reasonable for a tasting experience such as this one. Finally, suffice it to say the skill and knowledge of a tour guide can make or break a tour. In this case, I highly recommend that you take this tour...certainly led by Louis Favier!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your wonderful message I had a great time with you, too! I hope to come visit you in Florida!

Most amazing Lyon food tour
Truly had the most AMAZING time with our guide and sommelier, Louis! He personally took around Lyon where he explained some of the city’s rich history and took us to his favorite cheese shops, butcheries, and patisseries. We then went back to a private wine cellar where he gave us a lesson and wine and charcuterie paring. Louis is amazing! Our favorite part of the trip so far. Highly recommend booking with him!
Response from the operator: Thanks for that lovely message, I hope you’re having a great holiday!

Unique Experience, would do again!
A really unique experience! This private tour teaches how to pair your wine with meat and cheese. Louis has impressive knowledge and able to answer all our questions. The wines chosen and the food was delicious and ample, taking personalized input from us on selections! Would do again! We went over time but only because we were busy chatting! Very relaxed environment that works for you.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this lovely message ! I hope you’ll come back to Lyon !

Why this scores 61

Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lyon.
How much does Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier cost?
+
Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lyon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lyon is not rushed.
Is Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lyon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lyon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lyon and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Lyon: Wine & Cheese Pairing with a Sommelier start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lyon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lyon?
+
On Outty we rank every Lyon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lyon Highlights & Secrets Walking Guided Tour (small group) including Funicular, Vieux Lyon Cultural & Historical Walking Guided Tour (English), Highlights and Hidden Gems of Lyon Guided Walking Tour (English). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lyon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lyon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
