Unforgettable Gorilla Trekking Unfortunately Mixed with a Slow Lake Bunyonyi Stay

Tracking and seeing gorillas up close was an amazing experience, deserving a 5-star rating. Bweza Gorilla Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was spectacular, and the staff were fantastic. Our guide, Richard, was insightful and engaging throughout the trip. However, two issues affected the experience: 1. A last-minute change to stay at Lake Bunyonyi on Day 2 instead of Bweza, causing us to rush our gorilla trekking. As it turns out, the resort was a step down to the Bweza 2. Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort was disappointing with a slanted room, poor food, and subpar activities compared to Bwindi. I would have preferred visiting the Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga National Park, which is now part of a new tour package offered by the company.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us. We’re delighted to hear that the gorilla trekking experience and your stay at Bweza Gorilla Lodge left such a positive impression and that Richard’s guidance enhanced your safari. We appreciate your honest input about the change in accommodations and the experience at Lake Bunyonyi. Your feedback regarding the transition between lodges and activities is invaluable, as it helps us refine our itinerary and ensure a seamless, enjoyable experience for our guests. We’re also pleased to let you know that we now offer an itinerary that includes the opportunity to see Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga National Park, which can be a fantastic complement to gorilla trekking. Please reach out if you'd like more information on this new option or any other future travel plans! Thank you again for your feedback, and we look forward to creating another memorable adventure for you. Warm regards, The Musana Tours and Travel Team

    Gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi

We went on an amazing four day trip to Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi with Richard. The communication before our trip was great, and Richard was really flexible when we wanted to adjust our plans. He has a lot of knowledge about Uganda in general, could answer every question we had, was punctual and we felt really safe. Gorilla trekking, our stay at Bweza lodge and village walk was our absolute highlights in Uganda. I highly recommend travelling with Musana Tours and Travel.

Gorilla Trekking Safari and Lake Bunyonyi

We did a 3 day tour - one day gorilla safari, one day on lake bunyonyi, and a batwa village visit. It was amazing to see the gorillas so up close! like once in a lifetime experience, and ending the day of the trek with a relaxing time on the lake was the perfect idea. Richard was very kind and friendly, and he went above and beyond being willing to accommodate our changing schedule. Would highly recommend Musana Tours!

    Uganda Tour

I did a 21 day tour in January 2023 with Musana Tours. It was my second tour with Richard. The other trip was in August 2022 in Rwanda and Uganda. My 2023 itinerary was planned by Richard specifically around local culture and wildlife which he knew from the previous trip were my priorities. This trip was perfectly planned and I wouldn’t have changed anything. The lodges were exceptional and exactly the types of places I prefer. I love camping and we even got to stay in tents a few nights. Richard is very personable and easy to talk to. He always made sure I was safe and had everything I needed. He has an amazing eye and can spot birds and animals easily. I had a short list of animals I wanted to see that I didn’t see on the previous trip. While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, I managed to see those remaining animals. He knows where the animals are usually found and does his best to help you see them. If you are interested in birding, Richard knows many birds and is good at spotting them. We followed the itinerary , but the trip was never so rigid that we couldn’t stop to take pictures or visit the village children. The trip started at Lake Mburo. From there I visited Lake Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth, a two night stay on a coffee farm, Murchison Falls, Kidepo, Pian Upe, Sipi Falls, and Jinga. I also spent a few days with the tribes of the far north of Uganda. It was an interesting cultural experience learning and seeing how they live. And lots of dancing with the tribes which was so fun. I would definitely recommend Musana Tours for a trip to Uganda. Richard has a great knowledge and love of his country and it shows in his work. I am already planning my third trip to Uganda.

    Gorilla Trekking

I had the pleasure of being on Gorilla safari with Richard and it more than lived up to my expectations. Richard is a very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable man who makes the trip even more exciting. I had a day with the Gorillas, was picked up from Kampala and driven back again. The only thing I would do differently would be to take several days and experience something on the way, so that there was not such a long transport time. I can only recommend going with Musana Tours and Travel

Response from the operator: You were such a great guest Thomas, Next time you come we will add more days if you allow, a stop over at lake mburo is margical, and a day at lake bunyonyi after the trekk is the best way to relax as we prepare for the long drive again, we can also start and ebd our tou through Kigali and cut the transfer time by 70% We will be looking foward to hosting you again cheers

Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kampala.

How much does Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda cost?

    +

Prices start at $4,900 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kampala usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda take?

    +

Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kampala is not rushed.

Is Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kampala, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 96-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kampala can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kampala and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Luxury Gorilla tracking Adventure in Uganda start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kampala within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kampala?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kampala experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kampala’s Best Experience walking tour, Kampala Walking City Tours (Women-Guided), Kampala Heart of Walking Adventure. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kampala?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kampala?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
