1. Once you cross the ramparts, you arrive in front of the Christuskirche of Lucerne, dedicated to Jesus Christ. In Switzerland, the Wars of Religion of the 16th century led to a separation of the cantons between Catholics and Protestants.

2. Here you are in the forecourt of the city’s main church and the most important Renaissance religious building in Switzerland. It is dedicated to Saint Leodegard, known as Saint Leger in French, a bishop of Burgundy of the seventh century, known as a martyr for his violent death.

3. Here you are in front of the most famous statue in town. More than a million visitors come to this garden every year to discover the famous Lion of Lucerne. This poignant sculpture, carved from the rock in the 1820s, is the work of the Danish sculptor Berthel Thorvaldsen.

4. Glacier Garden Lucerne (Gletschergarten)

   Here you have the entrance to the Jardin des Glaciers, a popular geological museum in Lucerne. If you travel with the Swiss Travel Pass, which gives you access to transport and many Things to do in the country, then admission is free.

   One thing is for sure, much of the pleasure of the trip lies in discovering the local gastronomy. In Switzerland, it can be difficult to take advantage of it, as the Awards are often high for ordinary people.

6. Here you have access to the wall of Musegg. The name of the ramparts comes from an Old German word: “Musen”, which roughly means “to keep an eye open”.

7. Zytturm

   Here we are, you are now in front of the famous Zytturm, translate the clock tower. 31 meters high, and recognizable between a thousand with its fresco of 2 giants supporting the dial, it was built in 1442, but the clock it houses is even older.

9. Sternenplatz

   Sternenplatz may be very small, but it’s also a must during a visit to Lucerne and you quickly understand why! Painted facades are one of the most striking features of the city and the ones you see are perhaps the most beautiful in Lucerne!

10. Arriving in front of St. Peter’s Chapel, you find yourself face to face with the pretty colorful fountain of Fritschibrunnen. Built in 1918, it replaces another older fountain, and is dedicated, as its name suggests, to Fritschi, a legendary figure born of the Lucerne Carnival.

11. You have here on your left, one of the most remarkable buildings in Lucerne. This is the “Zunfthaus zu Pfistern”, the home of the Pfister Guild. In medieval times, guilds were professional associations that regulated trades, set standards, and controlled training and access to the profession to which they belonged.

12. Kornmarkt

    These few steps take you to Kornmarkt Square, which could be translated into French from Grain Point of Sale Square. The Lucerne had been there to buy and sell grain since 1356.

13. Hirschenplatz

    You may have noticed the practicality of the Swiss, who, at least in Lucerne, frequently name the streets after where they take you. The Hirschenplatz street, therefore, took you to the beautiful Hirschen square.

14. Weinmarkt

    You arrive here at Weinmarkt Square, the Wine Point of Sale Square. Even if wine was actually sold there in the past, it should be noted that until the 16th century, there was a Fish Point of Sale.

15. Leaving Weinmarkt Square, you will come face to face with a beautiful painted façade, that of the Inn des Libres. The mural was painted in the style of Hans Holbein, a Renaissance artist, known for his portrait of Henry VIII.

16. Mülhenplatz, with its 15000m2, is the largest historic square in Lucerne. It was created in the late Middle Ages, taking advantage of the space left by the destruction of several buildings. Archaeological excavations have shown the presence of dwellings dating back even before the city of Lucerne was founded.

17. Look up towards the hill in front of you on the other side. From here, you have a clear view of Castle Gutsch, whose whiteness contrasts with the surrounding forest.

18. So you arrive at the famous Spreuerbrücke. It was first built in the 1400s to connect the old mills to the bakers’ quarter on the other side.

19. Needle Dam

    The strange dam you see in front of you, which seems to be a pile of old pieces of wood, is the Lucerne Needle Dam. These needles are there to keep the lake water at an optimal level.

20. Alte Suidtersche Apotheke

    I would just like to draw your attention here, to the beautiful 16th century building that makes the corner, with the stair turret on its facade. This is L’Alte Suidersche Apotheke, the oldest pharmacy in Lucerne that is still in activity.

21. Ritterscher Palace Lucerne

    The imposing Renaissance palace that stands before you is an iconic building in Lucerne. It was built in the 1550s, at a time when the majority of the town's dwellings were made of wood. The inhabitants were therefore impressed by this luxurious stone construction.

22. Jesuit Church Lucerne

    You are finally standing in front of the famous Jesuit church in Lucerne. You will see it from everywhere, thanks to its privileged location on the banks of the Reuss. Photogenic as possible, it is undeniably part of the panorama of the city.

23. Luzerner Theater

    The great white building you pass now is the Lucerne Theatre. It is the only multidisciplinary theatre in the region. It has its own acting groups and presents shows all year round.

24. Wasserturm

    Before crossing the most famous bridge in the area, I would like to talk a little about the famous water tower you see, adjoining the bridge. The one called “Wasserturm” in German, which usually translates to water tower in French, was probably not one.

25. Chapel Bridge

    You are now at the heart of the matter, crossing the iconic “Kapellbrücke”, literally the Chapel Bridge. In the Middle Ages, Lucerne was a unique city, with 3 wooden bridges that allowed crossing the river at different points.
