Nightmare of a tour!
Where to begin...First I would rate this operator a "0" not even a "1" star. My family and I decided to use this tour operator as we had 10 people 2 Senior Citizens and 3 children so that we can cater our tour per the likings of the group. The operator was shady to begin with on the phone when I reached out to them on where the pick up and drop should be. I still caved on meeting him at his meeting point. I asked what kind of vehicle we would be riding in. He stated it is like a bus not a 15 passenger van. Which is what I wanted as my mother had recently had both of her knees replaced. Lateral movement is difficult, and getting on and off would be difficult as well. He assured me up and down that the vehicle will suit our needs. I asked to take a few things off the list of things that he had on his tour, and and something else. He said he couldn't although the advertisement states he is flexible. To add Griffith's Observatory and remove Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach he wanted an extra $220 cash. Which again I agreed to. The day before the tour, we confirmed all that was discussed above including time, and we were on our way the next day. I found parking couldn't see him. Turns out he shows up in a beat up 1990's Dodge Ram 15 passenger van. I looked at the van and immediately stated that you claimed that you had a newer bus like vehicle. He then stated this is what he has and that we had to take it or leave it. While talking to him, there was a stench that was unbearable. He looked like he just rolled out of bed pants were stained and wore a white company T-shirt over a normal shirt and and a worn out cap. I immediately realized that this was going to be a bad day if I caved in again and told him I did not want to proceed with the risk of a dangerous vehicle and a smelly tour guide. I immediately told him we would not proceed, he then took off in a hurry. I have pictures of the van he showed up in with the license plates to confirm. And a video depicting how he drove off. If you are looking for a tour guide to provide you a nice tour of LA and Hollywood, this is not the guy!!!
Response from the operator: We are surprised at your review which you refused to take our tour and contains information that is not true. We have excellent tour guides and the one you were going to take the tour with is highly regarded. We have excellent custom tour vehicles air conditioned with comfortable seating. We hope you have a better experience next time.

Excellent private tour of L.A.
Sunset strip where we saw The Viper Room, Whiskey, and wish we could have seen Motley Crew at The Roxy. The Hollywood sign along with specific homes in Beverly Hills. Our guide Cal was very personable, and knowledgeable about the local history, past current and future of the L.A area, highly booking another tour with him

Excellent tour - would highly recommend
We had an excellent tour of LA and Hollywood. Lots of sights and information on the 6 hour trip with a wide variety of stops. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide - nothing was too much trouble. Even went back when we missed a photo opportunity. Appreciated not feeling rushed and going at our pace.

Why this scores 50
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Los Angeles Private Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santa Monica.
How much does Los Angeles Private Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $510 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santa Monica usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Los Angeles Private Tour take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santa Monica is not rushed.
Is Los Angeles Private Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santa Monica, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Los Angeles Private Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Los Angeles Private Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Los Angeles Private Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santa Monica can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santa Monica and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Los Angeles Private Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santa Monica within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Santa Monica?
+
Santa Monica is where most LA coast tours start: beach bike and e-bike rides to Venice, surf lessons, food walks on Third Street and open-top runs up Pacific Coast Highway. On Outty we rank every Santa Monica experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Los Angeles Guided City Tour with 4 Stops and Free Time, Half Day Best of Los Angeles City Tour from Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills & Celebrity Homes Tour by Open Air Bus. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Santa Monica?
+
March to May and September to November, dodging the June marine layer. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Santa Monica?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
