What you get

    About this experience

This private day tour takes you to visit both Guyaju Cave Dwellings and Longqingxia Gorge in Beijing. You will be able to see 174 amazing caves in Guyaju, which were reportedly carved by an ethnic minority called the Xiyi during the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). Most of the caves are bunched together in two rock face villages, resembling ant farms for humans. In addition, take a fun boat ride in beautiful Longqing Gorge where you will see clear waters, wooded mountains, curious stones and wonderful karst caves. Lunch, entrance fees, private guide and driver service are all inclusive.

    1. Longqing Gorge

After morning pickup at your Beijing hotel, travel in a private vehicle to the Longqing Gorge (Longqingxia Gorge), located about 55 miles (90 km) north of downtown Beijing. Flanked on both sides by green peaks and capped to the north by the Gucheng Reservoir, built in 1981, the gorge offers peaceful yet dramatic scenery of wooded mountains, curious stones, and karst caves. During a 1.5-hour cruise through the ravine, feel the gentle breeze blowing against your face and enjoy the view of passing attractions like Baihua (Hundred Flowers) Cave and the Shenxianyuan (Immortal) and Jingang temples.

    2. Guyaju Caves

After the morning boat ride, enjoy a lunch of regional cuisine at a famer's house. Continue on to the Guyaju caves, a multi-village complex of more than 170 dwellings carved directly into the rock face. Believed to have been carved by an ethnic minority called the Xiyi between the Tang and Liao Dynasties, the remarkable caves resemble 'ant farms for humans' and consist of rooms of varying shapes and styles complete with doors, windows, kitchen ranges, and closets. After the full-day tour is finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel in downtown Beijing.

    Gorge and Caves, superbe!

A great day discovering less known and less touristy part of China. The gorge was nearly unreal, the caves gave us a taste of a distant past, Loris was professional and ready to assist!

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for your positive review! We are glad Loris did a wonderful job for your group. It is lovely to hear you enjoyed exploring the off‑the‑beaten‑path gorge and fascinating caves, and appreciated her professionalism and ready assistance. We will pass your kind compliments to Loris. We hope to welcome you back for another great tour in Beijing. Best regards, Lily's Beijing Tours Team

Amazing tour with the perfect guide!

Jeffrey and his driver picked us up and took us on amazing tour of Longqingxia. The river cruise through the gorge was unbelievable. Lunch was amazing. Some of the best food we have had in China. Jeffrey picked all the dishes and made a far better choice than we would have. Last stop was the Guyaju Caves. Definitely a must see. It was pouring with rain but Jeffrey still managed to make the trip around the caves very enjoyable. Great day out!

Response from the operator: Dear Anthony Thanks so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled you had such a fantastic day at Longqingxia with Jeffrey and our driver. It’s wonderful to hear you loved the stunning river cruise and the tasty local dishes Jeffrey picked for you. Even with heavy rain at Guyaju Caves, we’re glad Jeffrey made your visit fun and memorable. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in China! Best regards, Lily's Beijing Tours Team

Excellent day-long excursion in the outskirts of Beijing!

We had a fantastic day with Jeffrey. He and his excellent driver met us at our hotel (even though it wasn’t on the list of hotel pick ups) early so we could start our day. Lunch was at a local restaurant, Jeffrey asked our eating preferences, and did a great job picking a variety of yummy dishes. The river boat and the caves were perfect after our long flight to China and we even stopped at the jade factory for a tour and shopping before getting dropped back at our hotel. Lots of walking and stairs at the 2 stops. All in all a great excursion.

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your detailed and glowing review! We are extremely grateful that Jeffrey and his driver picked you up punctually and even accommodated your hotel, which was not originally included in the pickup list, allowing your tour to kick off ahead of schedule. Before arranging lunch at a local restaurant, Jeffrey thoughtfully checked your food preferences and carefully selected an assortment of delicious dishes for you. After your long flight to China, the river cruise and cave visit offered a wonderful relaxing experience. You also had a chance to tour and shop at the jade factory before being safely sent back to your hotel. We appreciate your honest note about the substantial walking and stair climbing at those two scenic spots. We will deliver your sincere praise to Jeffrey and his driver right away. It brings us great joy that you ended up with such a satisfying excursion. Best regards, Lily's Beijing Tours Team

Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $48 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 79 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour?

    +

Around 28 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Longqingxia Gorge Cruise and Guyaju Cave Dwellings Private Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
