About this experience
Come explore Livorno with a licensed local guide! Discover the city from two different perspectives: on foot and from the water. We’ll walk through Livorno’s historic center, stopping at some of its most iconic landmarks and discovering stories, local curiosities, and places you might otherwise miss. Then we’ll board a scheduled boat tour and cruise along Livorno’s canals, passing beneath its historic bridges and through the charming Venezia Nuova district. I’ll stay with you throughout the experience, providing commentary in English and helping you discover the city from a completely different perspective. The boat ride lasts approximately 45–50 minutes and is shared with other passengers. The order of the walking tour and boat ride may vary depending on weather conditions and the boat schedule.

Piazza Grande
You will meet your guide in front of the façade of Livorno Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Francis) in Piazza Grande to begin the tour. Depending on the departure time of the boat, we will either start with a walking tour through the city or go directly to the boarding point for the canal boat experience.
10 minutes here
Fortezza Vecchia
ogether, we will step inside the ancient walls of the Fortezza Vecchia and uncover its hidden corners. As we walk through its towers, courtyards, and stone passages, you will hear stories of power, defense, and life by the sea, bringing centuries of history to life in a place few truly explore.
30 minutes here
Monumento dei Quattro Mori
We’ll stop at the famous Monumento dei Quattro Mori, one of Livorno’s most iconic landmarks. Here you’ll take a closer look at the four bronze statues and the figure of Ferdinando I above them, while I explain the meaning behind the monument and why it became such an important symbol of the city. It’s a great place to understand a bit more about Livorno’s history, its connection to the sea, and to take some memorable photos.
20 minutes here
Venezia Nuova
We will board the boat and begin a relaxing cruise of about 50 minutes along the Medici canals, known locally as the “Fossi.” As we glide through the waterways, you’ll see Livorno from a completely different perspective, passing through several areas of the city that are closely connected to its maritime history. We’ll cruise through the charming Venezia Nuova district, famous for its canals, historic buildings, and unique atmosphere, often compared to Venice. Along the way, you’ll also spot the Mercato Centrale di Livorno area, one of the liveliest spots in the city, while I share insights about Livorno’s development, trade, and daily life around the canals. The boat ride offers great views, interesting stories, and plenty of photo opportunities before we return to the original boarding point. Please note that the boat ride is not private and there may be other passengers on board; however, I will personally provide the tour guidance in English throughout the experience.

Is Livorno Walking Tour & Canal Boat Ride with Local Guide worth it?
+

Is Livorno Walking Tour & Canal Boat Ride with Local Guide suitable for kids and families?
+

How far in advance should I book Livorno Walking Tour & Canal Boat Ride with Local Guide?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Livorno can sell out a month out. What are the best things to do in Livorno?
+
On Outty we rank every Livorno experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full day shore excursion to Florence and Pisa from Livorno with tasting, Full day Shore Excursion to Florence from Livorno with tasting, Bolgheri: Classic Wine Tasting with Winery Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Livorno?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Livorno?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
