And this is the best experience I offer ever about Txotx in the cider house and probably the most pure that is offered in the city. If you don’t believe me, came on because it would be unthinkable to leave the Basque Country without live the “Txotx”, drinking and eating in one of our unique cider houses. And after completing the experience, you are not satisfied. I will return you, the amount paid for it. * Txotx : although technically it is the action of opening the "kupela" (barrel). For the locals the “Txotx” is one of their hallmarks, being a festive act deeply rooted in friendship, respect, culture and fun. Txotx !!!

Touring, Shopping, Cooking, Eating and Drinking at the Cider House
Julen adapted our custom private day tour along the Basque coast because of the continuous rain. After a delicious breakfast of coffee and fresh croissants on the shore (where Julen picked up our bread and desserts for later), we drove through the beautiful countryside, walked in small towns, and learned more Basque history and culture. (We couldn't hike to the best viewpoint because the path was too wet and slippery.) We picked up fresh fish at a fish market, drove up the hill to a sea food provisioner to select shellfish. We then spent the afternoon at the Cider House. What an experience! One group was roasting a lamb for a good number of people, who danced to music as it cooked. (They shared a sample.) We had a separate room, stovetop and hearth to cook our meal. We prepped and ate throughout the afternoon, with wine and as much cider as we wished, conversations with the owner, shared food and table with other visitors, with three way Basque-Spanish-English conversations. The food was amazing, and learning the history of Basque Cider Houses, and conversations were so far beyond expectation. In spite of the rain, Julen crafted an amazing experience -- a highlight of our 2 weeks in Spain and France. A unique and wonderful way to celebrate our 50th anniversary!
