Trip Advisor lacks full disclosure
After a grueling four-hour van ride (we had been advised it was two hours which was fair enough), my family (sister & spouse, husband) were looking forward to being able to see a pink sand beach. In reality, it is a salt water flat where salt is extracted when flooded by seawater. As the water evaporates, salt is left and the minerals have a pink tinge. Do not believe you are going to be able to actually get near, but remember to bring binoculars so you can see anything. Then lunch at a local eating spot, where we had delicious fish. The boat ride was and hour and a half and we saw flamingos. Then back to the van for our return four hour return ride. The guide was terriffic (Ariel) and we enjoyed our commentary. If you enjoy driving and seeing some local culture then enjoy. We would not have taken this tour had we know the timing. We blame Trip Advisor for not being forthcoming in their description.
Response from the operator: Hello Marietta. thanks for your review. We are sorry to hear that the driving time was greater than what you expected, but unfortunately from Cancun, there is no way to get faster to Rio Lagartos. At the same time, we are happy to know that our guide Ariel have been a good traveling companion. Find us atyour disposal, for any other tour you would like to organize in Mexico. Saludos!!!

How much does LAS COLORADAS & RIO LAGARTOS from Riviera Maya and Cancun (Private) cost?

How far in advance should I book LAS COLORADAS & RIO LAGARTOS from Riviera Maya and Cancun (Private)?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?
+
On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour, VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
